The Everton players walk out first and applaud the fans, who are in attendance for the first time since March.

Will their return inspire the Toffees to victory? They will certainly hope so.

Michael: Ole saying 'everyone should be happy with a draw' is such a poor mentality. Unless you're a relegation fighting team; a point should not be deemed enough... Ever.

Oxygen Addict: So after 11 games United are 4 points from top spot, ahead of city and miles ahead of arsenal. Yet Solksjaer is seemingly the favourite for the sack.

Anthony: United have played 4 of the top 6 this season. All at home (which is unusual). They have scored 1 goal and not won any. Home games against the top 6 is where you need to get the pts on the board, United just seem happy to get draws.

Last time Everton fans got to see their team in the flesh, it was a 4-0 pumping by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last March.

"Everything went wrong," was Carlo Ancelotti's summation on that day following a nightmare return to his former employers.

The 2,000 Everton supporters inside Goodison Park will be hoping for a vast improvement, just a shame that a first chance to watch their beloved Blues in person this season comes without the mercurial talents of James Rodriguez.

Big incentive for Chelsea to win tonight as they will go top of the table and spend the night there at least.

For Everton, just picking up three points is all the incentive they need after a poor run of form that has seen them slide down the table.

Even Leipzig scored twice in less than 15 minutes against Utd - must mean City are over rated or Utd are not given enough respect. In the words of Kevin Keegan "I would just love it" if Utd did it come May - stranger things and all that.

“It’s rarely a thriller” in a derby? What on Earth is John Stones banging on about? He should be saying this kind of match is exactly what a derby SHOULDN'T be.

  6. 'We have to be sharper up front'published at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2020

FT: Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "We created enough chances. Last season how they beat us, how they beat West Ham when it was 0-1, the quality of the United team is they can play because they are good.

"The important thing is we didn't concede. We had enough chances to win but the game was tight. Respect to both sides. We have to be a little bit more sharper up front."

On whether Sergio Aguero could play next week: "Today was a problem in the stomach. It's step by step."

There's another big derby tonight and it's pretty much guaranteed to be better than the Manchester version.

Real Madrid host La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid. Atletico are on a 26-game unbeaten league run, since losing this fixture on 1 February.

  8. 'One win in seven games is an alarming run for Everton'published at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2020

    Everton v Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

The points return for Everton at this stage isn't too bad but the results of late, one win in seven, is an alarming run. Because Everton started so well winning four of first five games and drawing the Merseyside derby, the optimism and expectation is raised. You start to look at the signings they made and start to think can they compete at the very top?

But it's taken two injuries and two suspensions and suddenly they've found it very difficult. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a guy in form and scoring goals but most of his goals come from crosses and Everton get into those spaces to cross the ball with James Rodriguez and Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne. Those players have been missing so they're struggling to create those chances at the moment for Calvert-Lewin.

The fans in the stands applaud the players as they come to the end of their warm ups. Face masks and Santa hats are the order of the day.

    A festive look, of sorts.

  10. 'A good point in the future'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2020

    Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola tells BBC Sport: "0-0. They started well after we finished the first half well. We created three or four clear chances, you cannot expect many against a team like United and a good point in the end. It will be a good point in the future.

"United is always a strong team, this is Old Trafford and in a few details they are out of the Champions League. They score when they can run but we controlled them really well.

"It is not a derby, it would be different with the people and maybe they pushed more. It is different every week without the people, the virus is still there, you have to be careful."

  11. 'Not the best result, but best performance'published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2020

FT: Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to Sky Sports: "In my time against Manchester City that's the best performance we have had. Not the best result but the best performance.

"It was a tight game. I know we beat them a few times last season but those were different games. They had a few big moments.

"It's two good teams. Tactically we knew they were going to give us some problems but defensively we were excellent. I'm delighted with the defensive shape. With the ball we didn't create as much as we wanted to.

"They probably had the bigger moments in open play. Everyone should be happy with a draw.

"Its a mental challenge when that happens to you [going out of Champions League]. The mental energy you' spend trying to recover from Tuesday is huge."

  14. Postpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2020

    Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Manchester United

Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw tells Sky Sports: "I would say it was very tight, a very even game and we made it difficult for them at times. They could not get their rhythm going and we defended well. Either team could have taken it at the end, two very good teams and we move on with a point.

"We lacked the final ball in the first half, Bruno Fernandes is magnificently well at doing that but we lacked that and we could have won the game.

"We have started slowly the last three or four games, we said we needed to start brightly and if we did not we could be 3-0, 4-0 down by 30 minutes.

"A point is better than none, we maybe could have taken it towards the end. Tonight we showed a bit more about us but we know we need to improve to fight at the top."

All the big prem teams do this when they play each other. Where's the blood & thunder? You could win the league if one of them played with a bit of grit against the others.

FT: Man Utd 0-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender John Stones speaking to Sky Sports: "Obviously there were no fans and it was a different atmosphere. We both didn't create many chances. It's another clean sheet for us but we're a bit frustrated we've not come away with more.

"In a derby everything comes out. It's rarely a thriller. We can take a lot away from the fact we didn't concede. It's a platform to win a game when you keep clean sheets. To do that today away from home, it's very pleasing.

"It's frustrating not having anyone in the stands but it is what it is. The sooner they get fans back in the stadium the better."

I'll give you two reasons why it cannot get any worse - Olivier Giroud and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Both know how to find the back of the net, with Giroud having been in fine form lately and DCL being consistently good throughout the season.

Both go up against each other in the final game of the day.
