You'd expect Crystal Palace to try and start the game with a positive attitude and intensity and try and catch Tottenham out. This is a new Spurs side, a side that's really matured under Jose Mourinho and played some very good football and also very defensive and tough to break down.

  12. 'A new identity for Southampton'published at 14:13 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

    Southampton 3-0 Sheffield United

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was another very good game against an opponent who never gives up. We struggle in the past against teams that deep defend but now we have more solutions, patience and quality on the ball. It is about believing in the time we get to score. The times we scored were perfect. It is not easy to play against a team that have nothing to lose at 2-0. In front of our fans it is a different experience to take away. It was emotional. It is so nice to have them back. You can feel how much they enjoy watching us. We wanted to show how much we have learned during their time away. We have made some big developments.

Every part of our game has improved - with and without the ball. We try to look at every part of our game. We have built something here. They all know exactly what they need to do. It is a new identity for this club and one we want to push.

"Now we need everyone because we have so many games. We play intense but I think that is what people want to see."

On Chris Wilder: "He is a guy who never leaves a stone unturned. He will find a way out. You have to change the behaviour you have. It looked good for them at the start of the second half and they made it tough for us. He is a fantastic manager."

  14. 'It was the perfect Sunday'published at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

    Southampton 3-0 Sheffield United

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to Sky Sports: “We only had one shot from our opponents on our goal, three beside the goal, so we were definitely in a very good shape. For every issue we had an answer. We had very good decisions with the ball and against the ball. We were very calm in possession.

“It’s wonderful in front of our fans. It’s great to have them back. I was definitely emotional with a few tears in my eyes. It’s only 2,000 but you could feel how much they enjoyed watching us. We gave them what we feel they should see from us. It really was the perfect Sunday. It was fantastic.

“As you can see in our game, it’s not so interesting for us who scores. We bring as many players into areas where we can score. We really want to cause teams issues around the box.

“When you see us playing, it’s not a coincidence that we’re up in the table. Every part of our game has had a massive development. It’s not so easy to keep a lid on us when we can create chances.

“We’re getting better and better. The players are really eager to learn and keen to develop their game and it’s nice to watch.”

  15. Palace's struggles against Spurspublished at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

Crystal Palace v Spurs (14:15 GMT)

The 1-1 draw in last season's corresponding fixture in July ended Crystal Palace's nine-match Premier League losing streak against Spurs.

Jeffrey Schlupp's equaliser in that game is the Eagles' only goal in 13 hours versus Tottenham.

They are on a 17-match winless home run against established top-six opposition in the Premier League.

  16. 'Hodgson is clever enough to adapt to anything'published at 14:08 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

Crystal Palace v Tottenham (14:15 GMT)

    Stephen Kelly
Former Reading and Fulham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think Roy Hodgson has changed. As time has changed Roy has been clever enough to adapt and deal with different players.

As time and generations goes on players change and their attitude and mindset changes and Roy is capable of being able to still instil his philosophy and football values in any generation. For him to still be having success now at his age and still being able to relate to players who he's relating to now, that is unbelievable.

His style is defensively orientated but there is a huge work ethic there and I think he's done that everywhere he's gone.

  17. Son's on firepublished at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

Crystal Palace v Spurs (14:15 GMT)

Son Heung-min has scored 10 league goals after 11 games. He is the first Spurs player to reach double figures this early in the season since Gary Lineker scored 13 in 1991-92.

Son and Harry Kane have combined for 11 of Tottenham's 23 Premier League goals in 2020-21.

Tottenham's approach is working well at the moment. They are solid and well drilled at the back and the attacking partnership between Harry Kane and Son Heung-min is just outstanding.

However, it will be interesting to see how Crystal Palace get on against them if they get enough of the ball.

Wilfred Zaha can unhinge Spurs and Eberechi Eze looks a real talent too.

I'm still going with a Spurs win because they are battle-hardened, full of confidence and playing well - but Palace are dangerous because they will be able to attack them right across the pitch.

    Prediction: 0-2

  19. 'Southampton look like a team who believe in their manager'published at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

    Southampton 3-0 Sheffield United

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Leeds and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

What a turnaround for Southampton. Everyone goes back to the 9-0 against Leicester. Just shows, sticking by your man - the players believing in the manager and there will have been doubts about the manager but the players have been incredible.

What a signing Danny Ings has been, phenomenal player, great to see him back in the starting line-up and looking sharp as ever. Bringing Theo Walcott back to the club, what a singing that has been, he's just looked a different player to the one that was at Everton struggling for form and confidence, he's looked exceptional.

But they look like a team who believe in their manager and what's going on. Once the crowds come back in fully, they could be dangerous.

  20. 'We deserved the win'published at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

    FT: Southampton 3-0 Sheffield United

    Southampton

Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong: “I think we knew it’d be a tough one. They’re quite defensive. We knew they’d want to get something from the game.

“It was very important to get that breakthrough early on. The first few minutes of the second half were a little bit difficult, but then we found our feet and deserved the win. Going 2-0 up was extra comfort for us. We were very good after that and maybe could have got two or three more.

“Having fans gives you that extra edge. We’re very happy to have them back. We’ve had a few good performances of late and it’s a shame for the fans that they weren’t here to see them. Let’s hope today is a good building block for where we want to go.

“Ultimately we want to be at the top end of the table. We’ve found ourselves in the bottom half in recent years, so to be in the top half is nice. We take things game by game, but today’s a good start.

“We’ve got very different games coming up. Each game’s a new challenge, we’ll have to look at our approach for the next one.”

On his goal: “It took two or three richochets! I was very happy to see it hit the back of the net.”
