  7. Looking Sharp?published at 11:14 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

Southampton v Sheffield United (12:00 GMT)

Wilder is calling on the old guard. Phil Jagielka is a grizzled old pro at the back and Billy Sharp a wily campaigner up top.

Is Sharp the man to spark United's attack? If you've ever followed the Football League to a serious degree, you'll know he is no slouch in front of goal. He has netted over 200 times in the Championship and League One.

Four goals in 31 appearances (most as a sub) in the Premier League.

  9. Team newspublished at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

Southampton v Sheffield United (12:00 GMT)

Straightforward for high-flying Southampton, who give Danny Ings his first start since the beginning of November. He played the second half in Monday's defeat of Brighton following six weeks out with a knee injury. Moussa Djenepo drops to the bench.

Southampton: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Bertrand, Walcott, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Armstrong, Ings, Adams. Subs: Stephens, Redmond, Djenepo, Salisu, Diallo, N'Lundulu

Bottom club Sheffield United call for experience in a bid to end their misery, with Billy Sharp and Phil Jagielka called into the starting XI. Sharp has made only one league start this season, while Jagielka hasn't featured at all. The Blades are also boosted by the returns of Enda Stevens and Ethan Ampadu.

Sheffield United: Ramsdale, Baldock, Basham, Egan, Jagielka, Stevens, Berge, Fleck, Ampadu, Sharp, McBurnie. Subs: Lundstram, Mousset, McGoldrick, Robinson, Verrips, Osborn, Brewster.

  10. Ings getting betterpublished at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

Southampton v Sheffield United (12:00 GMT)

Just in case you were unaware, here is why Ings returning for Southampton is important for them...

In his 76 games for the Saints he has netted 39 times. That includes 22 last season (a tally only beaten by Jamie Vardy in the Premier League) and six goals in eight games this season, before injury struck.

Quite simply, nobody hits the net with anything like the same level of frequency for Southampton, and few do in the whole English top-flight.

The great news for Southampton is that Danny Ings is fully fit again and returns to their starting XI.

Probably not so great news for Sheffield United.

We'll have full team news for you very shortly, but here is what we know so far...

Southampton striker Danny Ings could be recalled to the starting line-up after making his comeback from a knee problem as a substitute at Brighton.

Boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says Saints have no injury problems to contend with.

Sheffield United remain without long-term absentee Jack O'Connell.

Enda Stevens, Lys Mousset and Ethan Ampadu all missed the defeat by Leicester but Blades manager Chris Wilder is hopeful the trio will be in contention for Sunday's game.

If Chris Wilder's side are to get that crucial first win of the season today, it will be firmly against the odds, with high-flying Southampton their opponent.

The Saints are buzzing under Ralph Hasenhuttl this season and have a n early chance to leapfrog three sides, including big-spending Chelsea, to go third, just a point behind league-leaders Tottenham.

  14. Big daypublished at 10:46 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2020

There will have been a few clubs heading into this weekend thinking 'we could probably do with a win here'. But no side needs a victory more than Sheffield United.

The Blades have just a single, measly point from their first 11 games. To put that into context, no team has taken fewer than four points from their opening 12 Premier League fixtures and avoided relegation.

So welcome to our coverage of Sunday's Premier League games. A big one for a few teams, but none more than the team in red and white stripes from the Steel City.
