Tom Lawrence: Sheffield United have only lost twice by more than 1 goal this season and have already played City, Arsenal (A), Liverpool (A), Chelsea (A), and Leicester, in 11 games. That's a very tough and unfortunate start. Can see them turning it around.

I agree, Tom. It is still early, they've not lost games by much and they've had a stinking early set of fixtures. The worry is the impact of losing so many games on morale and the pressure it puts on you to beat certain teams. They're running out of leeway already.

Jambarrell: Is Derby County's record PL low of 11 points seriously under threat this year?

David Ljunggren: ok, not many people would be brave enough to do this, and I am going out on a limb here, but I have enough expertise and insight into the game to make the following prediction: Sheffield United will be relegated this season

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+3 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Sheffield United

Southampton have utterly dominated against a broken Sheffield United. As has been the case during much of this season, the Blades are only down by one but there was little evidence in that half that Saints will need more than that to win.

    Southampton 1-0 Sheffield United

Too many Sheffield United players absolving themselves of responsibility here. To many arms raised to point where a team-mate should be for a misplaced pass. It's so painfully ominous for them that their spirit looks broken so early in the season.

Bob Moss: Seems United have already accepted they are going down, what happened to this team? Have they been found out?

Marcus: If this game stays as it is, it'll be one point from a possible 45 for Chris Wilder. Must be first in line for the sack, surely?

Many other teams, with different managers would probably swing the axe, Marcus. Even despite their current predicament, I think Sheffield United would be worse off for getting rid of Wilder. Don't let a few months undo what has been a remarkable job by him.

Southampton are toying with their opponent a bit now. Ings flicks the ball past his marker and sets up Kyle Walker-Peters for a drive from range that he sends high and wide.

Che Adams aficionados may remember that he used to play for Sheffield United. Blades fans obviously will. Wound, say hello to some salt.

Stuart Armstrong is your classic box-to-box midfielder. He demonstrates his energy and drive with a run deep into Blades territory and a shot that is blocked.

At the moment, this game is only going one way. And it is not a United comeback.

Che Adams has been directly involved in 10 goals in his last 14 Premier League games (7 goals, 3 assists).

He has scored as many Premier League goals in 12 apps this season (4) as he managed in 30 appearances last season.

There was a point when he was apparently going to leave the club and join Leeds last season. Ralph Hasenhuttl is being rewarded now for digging in and preventing that happen.

    Che Adams

It was coming. Even so, Southampton should not have been allowed to score from this situation.

James Ward-Prowse's free-kick is headed up in the air in the box by a Blades head and nodded back tamely by Verstegaard. Che Adams is the most alert man in the area and swivels to finish past Ramsdale.

It's a goal Saints' dominance deserves, but a shocking one for the visitors to concede.

Tom Hobart: Isn't there a kind of great justice with Mcburnie getting injured by his own dive? Can't imagine Wilder would be too happy if he's out for some time...

Ollie McBurnie needs to pull his socks up. Both physically and theoretically.

Well, Sheffield United are at least providing some sort of presence in the Southampton half now. Their first real chance comes from it too. Sander Berge sticks his boot out in the box to meet a driven cross, but it was travelling and the midfielder can't quite steer the ball towards goal. It was a chance, though.

Any fan who says "no fans isn't an excuse" must not be working from home. Without a boss (ie fans) overlooking/encouraging your performance at close quarters you naturally take your foot off the gas at times. Totally normal.

Yeah, I mean I'm only half watching this game. Bargain Hunt is on.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 29 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Sheffield United

A Blades corner. They swing it in but are unable to get a head on the cross as Saints clear.

Southampton break and Walcott thinks he would have been away but for a purposeful arm from the fallen Enda Stevens to block the ball. It is certainly a yellow card. The home side want a red, but they won't get one.

Utter rubbish from the blades. 3 strikers on the bench and playing McBurnie again. Wilder needs his head testing

The very first sign of anything positive from the Blades is a low cross from the right that is cut out by Bednarek. Soon after Billy Sharp gets a touch in the box and sets up a cross that Romeu is there to hammer away.

    Southampton 0-0 Sheffield United

After a bit of treatment on his shoulder, McBurnie looks like he's going to carry on. Doesn't look entirely happy, though.

Meanwhile, back on the pitch, the Saints onslaught continues. Ings and Adams combine again with the former getting two bites of the cherry in the box, both blocked.

A Saints goal is coming. The visitors can't concede ground and chances like this and expect to survive.

Tattz: Story of the day has got to be the relegation dogfight between Arsenal and Burnley. If Burnley win that game, and they really need to, Arsenal are heading into deep, deep trouble. You wouldn’t put it past Dyche & Burnley to do it either.

Tim Sherwood: I think today's biggest game has got to be Palace v Tottenham, a London derby involving the league leaders. But Leicester v Brighton is a veeery close second, two great attacking teams so I hope they both go for it and give us a Sunday show!

Speaking of McBurnie, he is down following a challenge from Kyle Walker-Peters. Looks like he has knacked his shoulder landing after hurdling the tackle. It was an awkward fall.

More home chances. Ings has the ball whipped off his toe just as he is abut to shoot in the box. From the resulting corner, Jan Vestergaard rises to head just wide.

The only contribution Sheffield United have made in an attacking sense so far is Oli McBurnie getting into a mini war with Jan Bednarek.
