Ken Ikeokwu: Conor Gallagher is everything to WBA that Chelsea desires of Havertz. High pressing, good passing, shooting accuracy and goals.

    Man City 1-0 West Brom

Another threat successfully dealt with by the Baggies defence.

That's followed by a replay of Karlan Grant's eighth-minute chance. This could have been a very different first half.

    Man City 1-0 West Brom

Gabriel Jesus is brought down by a strong Conor Gallagher challenge.

It's enough to earn Gallgaher a booking before the interval. And now Kevin de Bruyne will have the chance to whip in the free-kick...

That is 10 hours without conceding a goal for Manchester City now.

Pep Guardiola has turned into one of the world's foremost defensive coaches.

    Ah, that was almost perfect.

Kevin de Bruyne finds the feet of Phil Foden, who swivels effortlessly on the edge of the West Brom penalty area but the ball just doesn't roll for him and he isn't allowed to capitalise.

    Very nice try.

  6. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Man City 1-0 West Brom

City continue as they did prior to their goal - lots of passes around the halfway line before someone spots a run and another attack begins.

Credit to West Brom though. Their heads have not dropped following the opener and they're working hard to close down the angles.

  7. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Man City 1-0 West Brom

That was Gundogan's first goal in 22 Premier League games, since scoring against Leicester last December.

How Karlan Grant will regret not putting away that early chance now.

The goal was coming. So much possession it was ridiculous! Raheem Sterling was patient, came on his left foot and just pulled it back for Ilkay Gündogan. His run was perfect and scores. It was going to come and it had to come - just too much possession.

    Man City 1-0 West Brom

A decent response from West Brom, as Conor Gallagher shoots just wide from Jake Livermore's ball.

They have to dig deep now, the visitors.

    Ilkay Gundogan

    Resistance broken!

You sensed it was vital for West Brom to avoid an early set-back in this one, and for half an hour they had done so well.

But the breakthrough seemed inevitable for City, and it's an easy finish for Ilkay Gundogan that does it, slotting in from Raheem Sterling's cut back.

Manchester City have just kept the ball and been patient this first half. To be fair to West Brom, what they are doing now is what they would've worked on all week - make sure you stay nice and compact.

  12. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Man City 0-0 West Brom

Patience is the word for City at present.

Benjamin Mendy plays a short pass to Raheem Sterling, who springs into action - but Matt Phillips is quickly onto the danger and muscles Sterling away from the ball.

  13. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Man City 0-0 West Brom

City earn another corner and Ruben Dias looks primed to meet it with his head.

There's maybe a lack of communication, as Rodri steals in and meets it first, heading over Sam Johnstone's crossbar.

West Brom have just got to find that little bit of confidence, that little bit of patience. They just need to take their time when they have the ball. Have a feel for the ball.

John McQuillan: Frank Lampard has to take a fair share of the blame for Chelsea's last two defeats. You can't carry passengers in this league and he insists on picking Havertz when he's so clearly out of form.

Simon: Despite the jokes about Wolves being the Portuguese national team etc, they don't half find some insanely good players!

Dave Bookham: Chelsea slide starts. When will Frank realise Werner is not a winger??

  16. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Man City 0-0 West Brom

City currently on about 70% possession at the moment but it feels like more.

And it will feel like much more to the West Brom players, doing so much chasing early on.

They're succeeding in making this difficult for the hosts, but how long can they keep up this great effort level?

  17. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Man City 0-0 West Brom

    That would've been some goal!

Benjamin Mendy doesn't hesitate. A cross flies out his way and he volleys it first time at Sam Johnstone's goal.

From a difficult angle, he forgivably fails to find the target.

  18. Baggies backs against the wallpublished at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2020

    Man City 0-0 West Brom

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic is heavily invested in his team as always.

It won't be long before he is creeping onto the pitch.

The Baggies could do with someone of Bilic's ability at centre-half I think. This is going to be a long night for the visitors.

  19. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Man City 0-0 West Brom

West Brom have the leakiest defence in the division so far, with 25 goals conceded in 12 games.

But this has been comfortable enough so far at the back - perhaps as comfortable as they could hope for at the Etihad.

Apart from Karlan Grant's great early chance they've not really threatened, though.

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante to Amazon: "Always disappointed [to lose]. The first half was not so great.

"We were a goal ahead and could have managed the game. When they scored, we tried to win. By trying to win the game we conceded a counter attack.

"What happened in the last two games is not that we want."
