  3. PENALTY to LEICESTERpublished at 82 mins

    Leicester 0-2 Everton

    Maybe it's not all over...

Ayoze Perez runs into the box, Andre Gomes has a nibble at him and makes the slightest of contact.

    Penalty given!

    Arsenal 1-1 Southampton

Southampton might not have a better chance.

They finally get in behind the Arsenal backline but Moussa Djenepo mis-controls at the vital moment and has to stretch to put the ball into the side-netting.

  5. 'Allardyce thick skinned enough to brush aside scepticism'published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2020

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Sam Allardyce’s latest rescue mission at West Bromwich Albion has prompted a predictably mixed reaction from supporters following the sacking of Slaven Bilic.

Allardyce, 66, has been out football since he was dismissed by Everton in May 2018 after a six-month tenure that saw him become an increasingly unpopular figure with their fans.

He will point out, with justification, in his defence that he brought Everton out of trouble and into a comfortable eighth place in the Premier League.

This is the sort of work the Baggies hierarchy will be expecting him to do at the Hawthorns.

Allardyce is thick skinned enough and confident enough in his own ability to brush aside any scepticism and build on the sort of spirit and organisation West Brom showed in Bilic’s final game when they drew at Manchester City.

Achieve this and even those who have reacted angrily to Allardyce’s appointment may find themselves in forgiving mood.

Mic Medeska: Arsenal fans comparing Arteta to Ole!? If United win both their games in hand they can be top or as high as third. Gunners are in 15th.

As an Arsenal fan the saddest part is that we are probably going to miss out on the chance of Big Sam by just one day.

    James, Eastbourne

Arsenal will end up with more red cards than goals at this rate.

    Arsenal 1-1 Southampton

    Steve Sidwell
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal have just got to stay composed. They will have done lots of possession sessions like this. Just stay composed, just try and play your way out and keep your defensive line and stay organised.

Keep the communication levels good and if you get a chance, you have to be clinical. You have to take it. They have to be brave now.

    Leicester 0-2 Everton

Leicester heads have understandably dropped now as Everton find plenty of space to work a chance for Gylfi Sigurdsson, he sidefoots over from the corner of the area.

I feel like Carlo Ancelotti has definitely been linked with Arsenal at various points down the track. One that got away?

  9. goal

GOAL - Leeds 3-2 Newcastlepublished at 77 mins

    Stuart Dallas

    What a game.

Newcastle give the ball away in their own box and are heavily punished.

The excellent Mateusz Klich dinks in a cross into the area and it drifts all the way to the back post for Stuart Dallas to nod in unmarked from six yards out.

Can Leeds hold on this time?

    Leicester 0-2 Everton

The save from DCL was right out of the top drawer and it was actually a very good improvised finish from Mason Holgate.

Leicester's corner woes continue. Everton looking good for a win to take them above Chelsea now.

    Arsenal 1-1 Southampton

This is excellent from Southampton though, they are patiently working for the openings rather than just lumping it long into the Arsenal box.

The home side have not had a spell of possession for a long while.

Dave Payn: In this festive season - so much for The 'Angel' Gabriel...

Big Banana: Arsenal players are sabotaging Arteta. They want him gone. Gabriel asked for the red card. 3 red cards in how many games isn’t a coincidence. Unfair if Arteta goes but some players have to be moved on as well.

Charles Sendy: Arteta doesn’t learn anything. After one card, Gabriel should have been taken off immediately.

    Arsenal 1-1 Southampton

This is looking like a 'see it out for a point' job for Arsenal now.

10 men behind the ball, happy to play on the counter.

Can they hold out for the remaining 18 minutes?

  14. goal

GOAL - Leicester 0-2 Evertonpublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2020

    Mason Holgate (72 mins)

Kasper Schmeichel is having one of those days. At fault - maybe - for the first goal, he now makes two blinding saves and still concedes!

Gylfi Sigurdsson whips in a corner, Michael Keane heads on and Schmeichel claws it out. Then, from more or less inside the goal he somehow pushes Dominic Calvert-Lewin's stinging follow-up against the bar and Mason Holgate is able to poke in his first Everton goal.

    Leicester 0-1 Everton

It's er, it's not the most scintillating evening of football at Leicester. Everton have set the hosts a puzzle anf they don't look like solving it so far.

The visitors happy to camp in and soak up pressure and unless Harvey Barnes scores a Maradona-style goal you can't see Leicester firing back at this rate.
