  1. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

Better from Burnley as they find Robbie Brady on the right, he chops on to that trusty left foot and whips in a cracking ball but Tyrone Mings climbs well to head out.

  2. 'Hit with venom'published at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2020

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

    Lee Hendrie
Former Aston Villa midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Anwar el Ghazi does great to create that half a yard of extra space and it would have been interesting to see how Nick Pope would have dealt with that because it was hit with some venom.

It's been an excellent start by Villa. They have dictated play.

  3. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

Jack Grealish is playing a bit more centrally tonight. Pinning down an out-and-out position for him was what was holding him back in terms of playing for England, in my opinion. A cert for the squad from now on though surely?

  4. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

If it's good enough for Spurs...

Villa are piling on the pressure though as now Anwar el Ghazi gets a shot away but the Burnley wall is in place to make another block.

  5. 'Burnley set up to frustrate'published at 18:12 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2020

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

    Lee Hendrie
Former Aston Villa midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Look at the way Burnley are set up. They have every man behind the ball are making it very difficult. They try and get the ball forward on the counter attack and are dangerous at set plays.

  6. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

Burnley have been under the cosh since the off but here's their first real attack. It breaks to Dwight McNeil on the left, his cross is excellent but hacked away.

  7. CLOSE!published at 9 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

It's all Villa so far. Ollie Watkins finds a pocket of space on the right of the area, his cross is blocked, comes back to Watkins who beats his man this time and flashes a shot/cross that skims across the goal and is pretty close to going in!

  8. 'Clarets defend so well'published at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2020

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

    Lee Hendrie
Former Aston Villa midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Burnley defend so well. They have numbers back and are very resolute. Bertrand Traore had a bit of space on the edge of the box but Burnley get bodies in the way.

  9. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

Jack Grealish, seemingly forgetting that he's the captain of my fantasy team this week, slides into a challenge that risks a booking but he gets away with it on this occasion. He won the ball but it was a lunge on Robbie Brady.

  10. CLOSE!published at 5 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

Jack Grealish runs at Burnley, there must be six yellow shirts between him and the goal and he takes them all on. His shot is blocked, Ollie Watkins' follow-up is also charged down and Burnley smuggle it out for a corner.

From the set-piece Bertrand Traore spanks a shot just wide! Good hit.

  11. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

Bertrand Traore cuts in from the right wing and flashes in a low cross but it's well dealt with by the typically dependable Clarets backline.

  12. 'Key test for Villa'published at 18:01 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2020

    Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley

    Lee Hendrie
Former Aston Villa midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Villa have been so inconsistent particularly at home. Villa Park has been a difficult stage for them. You feel this is going to be a key test for them. Burnley will be flying high after the win at Arsenal. They will try and frustrate Villa.

The two teams converge around the circumference of the centre-circle as we take a moment to remember former Villa boss Gerard Houllier, who died this week.

Burnley have almost as many clean sheets this season as Premier League goals.

Three of their four clean sheets have come on the road. Four of their six top-flight goals have also come away from Turf Moor.

Big night for Nick Pope against a Villa side that has banged in 21 goals in 10 games.

As Frankie goes to Hollywood fades down on the Villa Park speakers we move ever closer to kick-off on what looks like a freezing night.

Let's go against convention and have ourselves a 4-4 thriller eh? Why not?

Aston Villa's tally of 18 points is their highest after 10 matches of a Premier League season since 2009-10 under Martin O'Neill (18).A Villa win against Burnley would move them on to their highest points tally after 11 fixtures of a Premier League campaign since 2001-02 under John Gregory (21).
