James: We lose home games we should be winning and with the lads missing tonight, this one worries me.

Will: With Villa's line-up, who knows what will happen.

    Daren Taylor: Why Nakamba?

Burnley have managed just six goals in 16-and-a-half-hours of Premier League action this season.

But there are signs they could be turning a corner.

Since being hammered 5-0 at Manchester City on 28 November, Sean Dyche's side have netted twice, taken four points from two games, and secured a first win on Arsenal soil since 1974.

Five of their nine points this season have come away from Turf Moor.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking about the passing of former Villa boss Gerard Houllier: "I never actually met him but there were some heartbroken people at Bodymoor Heath who worked with him."

On his team selection: "Douglas Luiz and Matty Cash have yellow cards and suspensions which were harsh in my opinion. Ezri Konsa is ill and it was a case of what do I do with Jacob Ramsey? I thought he did well at Wolves but I just feel this could be a good game for Anwar El Ghazi."

On Jack Grealish's driving ban this week: "That has been dealt with. His mind is on football and hopefully he goes out and does well."

There's some strong competition for this but might selling him be Mikel Arteta's [or whoever actually sanctions those sort of moves] worst call so far?

Will Emiliano Martinez become the first Argentine to win the Golden Glove?

The Aston Villa keeper will go top of the clean sheet table if he does not concede against Burnley.

Martinez, who joined from Arsenal for £17m in September, has five shut outs in 10 top-flight games this season.

Last season's Golden Glove winner, the award for the goalkeeper who keeps most clean sheets in the Premier League, was Manchester City's Ederson who managed 16 clean sheets.

Only City and Tottenham have a better defensive record than Villa this season.

How's this for a contrived stat - Burnley have lost eight of their last 12 away league matches on Thursdays (W1 D3), last winning an away league game on Thursday in April 1961 against Birmingham City.

Elvis was number one with 'Wooden Heart' which wasn't one I knew. Just put it on - it's rubbish.

Prospective Burnley owner ALK Capital is hoping to conclude its takeover of the club in time to give manager Sean Dyche a chance to bolster his squad in the January transfer window.

ALK - run by US-based businessman Alan Pace - is pursuing its takeover ambitions at the same time as a separate deal involving Cheshire-based lawyer Chris Farnell and Egyptian businessman Mohamed El Kashashy.

The Premier League is yet to rule on either bid but ALK feels it is in pole position.

And, while it is not anticipated there will be any resolution before Christmas, the American sports investment firm is hopeful the matter will be concluded early enough in January to help Dyche in Burnley's battle against relegation.

  10. 'Burnley in a false position'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2020

Villa's improvement in the past few months should give them reason to believe they can stay in the top half.

They are not just more of a threat going forward, they have shown with wins like the one they got at Wolves on Saturday that they can go out and keep things tight then nick the points, which is not what they were known for last season.

I would be surprised if they roll Burnley over, though. Sean Dyche's side got a couple of breaks against Arsenal, with Granit Xhaka's stupid red card for the Gunners then an own goal for their winner, but they were due a bit of luck and they are better than their league position suggests.

    Prediction: 1-1

Burnley manager Sean Dyche to Amazon: "The win at Arsenal certainly helps, it's still a tough place to go and it was a good performance.

"The players are delivering the goods so we are looking for another good performance and hopefully a win.

"It's very tough to score goals in the Premier League. We have improved when it comes to creating chances so hopefully that will continue.

"I wanted to sign Ollie Watkins but I've wanted 1,000 players and we haven't been able to afford 999 of them."

When was the last time Aston Villa lost four league games at home on the spin?

Since humiliating Liverpool 7-2 in October, they've been beaten by Leeds, Brighton and Southampton on home soil.

Yet they've managed to win at Leicester, Arsenal and Wolves.

    Bonkers.

Not even a global pandemic and playing a match about every 12 hours can force him to rotate his squad.

Four changes for Aston Villa - at least two of them enforced - from the side that started the 1-0 win at Wolves on Saturday.

Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz is suspended after being sent off at Molineux while defender Matty Cash is also suspended.

Marvelous Nakamba, Anwar El Ghazi, Ahmed Elmohamady and Kortney Hause all make their first Premier League starts of the season, with Ezri Konsa and Jacob Ramsey also dropping out.

Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Elmohamady, Hause, Mings, Targett, McGinn, Nakamba, Grealish, Traore, Watkins, El Ghazi.

Substitutes: Taylor, Steer, Hourihane, Engels, Guilbert, Davis, Ramsey.

Unsurprisingly, Burnley boss Sean Dyche sticks with the same XI that started the 1-0 win at Arsenal last Sunday as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.

The Clarets' next game against Wolves is not until next Monday so they have an extra day or two to prepare.

Burnley XI: Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Brady, Westwood, Brownhill, McNeil, Wood, Rodriguez.

Substitutes: Barnes, Peacock-Farrell, Pieters, Bardsley, Vydra, Long, Benson.

Points have to be put on boards sooner rather than later. Can Chris Wilder and Sean Dyche celebrate this evening?
