    Man Utd 1-0 Watford

Daniel James is caught napping on the ball on the left. It's whipped into the middle and headed out to Nathaniel Chalobah on the edge of the box.

He chests it down and strikes it but drags the shot wide of the left post. United have definitely dropped off in the last 10 minutes or so.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first venture into the technical area of the evening is to bark his frustrations towards his captain Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.

"Donny! Scott! Play your positions. Stop giving it away."

I agree totally with Lawro! (not Mark Lawrenson ) Pogba and Martial are just not interested in playing for Man Utd !The quicker we get rid the better!

  4. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Man Utd 1-0 Watford

Brandon Williams isn't allowing Joao Pedro to get around him on the left. He puts the ball out for a throw-in, frustrating Pedro, before the Watford man hits it off him to win a corner.

From the corner, it comes out to Ismaila Sarr, who strikes it well. It bounces off Dean Henderson and onto Eric Bailly. Watford are claiming handball but nothing given.

Watford are quite lucky that Man United have lost their way in the past 10 minutes.

They are giving the ball away so cheaply. They are all over the place. It has turned into a scrappy game

Sam: I really think Bailly and Tuanzebe should be our first choice centre back pairing. The problem is they both have poor injury records so I don’t see it happening.

Kiriama: It pains me to admit but truth is Emile smith Rowe is the perfect Ozil replacement, I can't see a way back for Mesut to the team

John: It’s a sad sad day when your not able to see all the fans having fun and showing passion for their clubs

  7. Postpublished at 20:29 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

Ismaila Sarr chases a long ball on the right. He beats Dean Henderson to it - the keeper has raced all the way out from the area - but Sarr can only hoist it up and into the air.

There's a scramble at the back post to keep it in but there's plenty United defenders back and they come away with it cleanly.

  8. Postpublished at 20:26 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

Francisco Sierralta does well to win a throw-in in a battle with Mason Greenwood on the left. Watford have started to settle into shape more now.

Lawro: Not much point in United going for the win. Sooner or later we'll get to the point in the competition where Ole will want to win the game, he'll play Pogba and Martial, and we'll get knocked out.

Better from Watford. They slow it down, keep the ball a little and Philip Zinckernagel and Nathaniel Chalobah combine in the middle.

It's eventually whipped in from the right but Andre Gray's header is blocked and falls at the feet of Dean Henderson.

  12. Henderson making an impressionpublished at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Simon Stone

The Manchester United goalkeeping situation is fascinating.

Dean Henderson is starting to impress in the games where he starts, whilst David de Gea appears to have stepped up a level following Henderson's return from Sheffield United.

There are so many games to play this season, I am not anticipating any change to the current situation this month but I can't see either being happy as a second choice next season.

Eric Bailly meets the curling cross and hits it first-time on the volley. He catches it well but it's just wide of the far post.

He's clapped on the back by his team-mates as he sprint back into defensive position.

Every time that Manchester United go forward you think they are going to score or at least get an effort on goal.

Some really nice one-touch football. Watford are finding it difficult to live with the pace of Manchester United at the minute.

  20. 'You have to take your chances'published at 20:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    FT: Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce: "You have to take your chances when they come along, we had the opportunity in the final few minutes and didn't grasp it. As a cup tie, it could have gone either way and we rue the missed chances.

"I though Andy (Carroll) did fantastically well, if he had topped it off by scoring a goal it would have been good for him. A lot of pleasing things, we've had a tough run of fixtures but we dust ourselves down and go again.

"I have found positives in all of the games, it has been a difficult period in terms of the games we have had to play. We are trying to get higher up the pitch, which is pleasing, and create a few more chances."
