Wales manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brighton are struggling to breakdown this Newport back five because as soon as Newport lose possession they filter into that five really quickly.

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

We've passed the half way point in the first half and the four strikers have touched it 23 times between them...

There's a chance for Robbie Willmott to get in behind but his cross into the middle is cut out.

If I'm being honest, this has been pretty dreadful so far.

There's a strangled appeal for a penalty as Neal Maupay goes down in the Newport area but there's nothing there.

    Anyone for penalties?

  5. GOOD SAVE!published at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2021

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

    A shot!

Newport back off Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma and the Mali international, who has been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United in recent weeks, decides to have a pop.

It moves a bit in the air but it is a fairly comfortable save for Tom King.

Newport are not getting much of the ball but they are defending very well and there's been no obvious opportunities for Brighton so far.

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

Brighton are dominating possession and terrority but they are yet to fashion a clear-cut opening.

There hasn't been a single shot in anger yet by the Premier League side.

  8. One thing missingpublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2021

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

    Michael Pearlman
BBC Sport Wales at Rodney Parade

I've been lucky enough to cover a lot of Newport County games over the years, more than I can count and that includes several absolute crackers in recent times in the FA Cup.

Leeds, Leicester, nearly Manchester City and Spurs, some big clubs have been humbled at this ground.

The common factor? All those games had several thousand Newport fans making an unbelievable noise at a ground where the fans are extremely close to the pitch.

It's a football cliché for sure, but Newport are missing their 12th player tonight.

  9. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

One early observation is that Newport boss Michael Flynn is not afraid to be vocal on the touchline.

He's absolutely berating instructions out at the moment. Liam Shephard has had to endure the brunt of most of them so far.

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

What an opportunity for Newport to take the lead.

It was an awkward one because it was a tight angle but it was a great opportunity.

  11. What a chance!published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2021

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

    Michael Pearlman
BBC Sport Wales at Rodney Parade

Padraig Amond and FA Cup goals usually go together like Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa and praise from neutrals, but he's got that one wrong, by his standards it was an absolutely golden chance.

    He's still muttering to himself.

  12. CLOSE!published at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2021

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

Lewis Dunk is a very, very lucky boy!

He gets a back pass, after a long ball over the top, completely wrong and Padraig Amond - who has plenty of FA Cup pedigree - steers an effort wide of the target.

    He'll be disappointed with that.

  13. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Newport 0-0 Brighton

It has been a scrappy start with neither side able to fashion any proper opportunities in the opening few minutes.

Brighton, as you'd expect, are dominating possession.

We're almost ready to go at Rodney Parade.

The Brighton players have made their way to the touchline, after getting ready in what looks like a wedding marquee.

What a world we're currently living in.

I can confirm that there are at least four areas on the pitch that are covered in sand.

Thankfully it's a dry evening, so we don't have the rain to contend with as well.

  19. A leveller?published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2021

    Newport v Brighton (19:45 GMT`)

The groundstaff at Rodney Parade have had a busy 24 hours. Last night saw the Dragons lose to Ospreys in the Pro14 on a ground owned by the Welsh Rugby Union.

This season alone, the ground has been used by Newport County, Wales Women for two internationals, the Cardiff Blues and the Dragons.

What do they say about the FA Cup being a great leveller?

How much of an impact could the pitch have on tonight's game? We all know Brighton like to knock it about...

Talking of Michael Flynn, he looks incredibly relaxed.

He's just been sat in the stand watching his team warm-up and now he's sharing a joke with a member of his coaching staff.

The right way to go about it.
