    Bruno Fernandes (pen)

    Never in doubt.

Bruno Fernandes steps up and finds the bottom left-hand corner to leave Emi Martinez with no hope of getting a hand to it.

Villa were level for hardly any time at all!

    Bertrand Traore

    Equaliser!

United are caught out of shape as several of their players try to delay the taking of a free-kick.

Instead, the ball is played quickly to Jack Grealish on the left and the Villa captain does brilliantly to pick out Bertrand Traore at the back post.

The in-form Traore slots neatly past David De Gea and Villa are level at Old Trafford.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 55 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Eric Bailly goes into the book after a hefty challenge, which it appears VAR might take a look at.

The United defender makes a rather strong sliding tackle, but on review a yellow is still deemed enough.

It's been a good start by Villa in this second half!

It was great movement and terrific play between Bertrand Traore, Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins.

I think it was actually closer than I thought on second glance.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 53 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

David de Gea just manages to get his finger tips to Ollie Watkins' close-range header from Jack Grealish's cross as Aston Villa continue their good start to the second half.

A good save from De Gea, who was helped by the fact Watkins' attempt was pretty central rather than toward either corner.

  10. CLOSE!published at 51 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

David de Gea always looked confident this was going over the crossbar, but the camera angles made that look very close!

John McGinn frees Matty Cash down the right and the Villa defender shoots just over.

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Just the eight more goals needed for United to move ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, of course.

I can't see that happening against a very determined Villa team. The visitors have a free-kick in the United half which Jack Grealish whips in, but Paul Pogba heads it away.

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

It finished 2-2 at Old Trafford between these two last season.

A point here again would be enough to take Aston Villa, unbeaten in five in the Premier League, up to fifth.

Both sides are eagerly battling for possession at the start of the second half...

United, of course, are heading level on points with Premier League leaders Liverpool as things stand.

That's the aim for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side now, as the players make their way back out for the second half.

Anthony Martial's goal tonight takes him to 117 goal involvements in all competitions since his Manchester United debut in September 2015.

That's more than any other United player in that time - two more than Marcus Rashford.

Can Rashford respond in the second half?

  16. 'It was not a good game'published at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2021

    FT: Everton 0-1 West Ham

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti speaking to BT Sport: "It was not a good game. We didn't have opportunities or concede opportunities but unfortunately they had a lucky deflection and we lost the game. We could play with more intensity and quality in front but we have to accept this.

"A point was a fair result but in football sometimes you are unlucky. We didn't deserve to win, we didn't deserve to lose. We deserved a point.

"We had a fantastic period in the past and that won't affect our goal and belief for the end of the season."

On James Rodriguez' routine: "He came back after a long rest because he was not available. There was possibility to work in this period."

  17. 'Hammers players in good form'published at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2021

    FT: Everton 0-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes talking to BBC Sport: "We felt we were a bit disadvantaged playing three games in six days.

"The players are in really good form and we have a really good spirit in the camp and it's a really important three points for us."

Villa controlled large portions of that game. Ollie Watkins needs to offer a little bit more, he needs to sharpen up and Villa will create a chance.

You always know this Man Utd team will be dangerous on the counter attack.

I have to agree with you there Michael, he's been involved in most of United's best attacks and has even treated us to a few step-overs.

Pogba actually had more touches than anyone else on the field in that first half.
