    Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

MRM: This is really worrying as a Liverpool fan. The team's been playing poorly for a while, the defence is very vulnerable. Klopp needs to sign someone even if it's a loan.

    Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

Liverpool could have been two or three down, and then quick as a flash they nearly equalise. Sadio Mane does superbly inside the area to get away from Kyle Walker-Peters and stand up a little cross, Mo Salah attacks it well under pressure but can't keep his header under the bar.

That would've been an unbelievable goal. Southampton are just popping it around Liverpool and Ings just needed a better ball as Theo Walcott would've had a tap-in - but it would've been a magnificent goal.

    Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

Cracking football again from the hosts as they slice Liverpool open on the charge. Danny Ings is gone down the right and puts it in low - Jordan Henderson slides in to clear.

    Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

Fraser Forster comes for, and drops a cross - he gets rescued by the referee's whistle. A bit soft that one.

  7. Lockdown latestpublished at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2021
    Breaking

Premier League football and other elite sports with testing regimes and bubbles in place will continue in England despite the country heading into lockdown again.

England fell into line with Scotland, which earlier on Monday had agreed that football and rugby clubs can continue to train and play as normal after introducing new restrictions for the general public north of the border.

However, a March-style full lockdown due to concerns of rising Covid-19 cases means outdoor gyms, tennis courts and golf courses will close and outdoor team sports will be prohibited.

    Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

Dave: Injuries have crippled quite a few teams in the league this season. Not just Liverpool. They have their first choice front three. A first choice midfield. And three out of four first choice defenders. And their number 1. Exactly how are they "crippled"?

Marc Richards: Ar Vind said that injuries have crippled the Liverpool side. Aside from Van Dijk who else realistically is missing from the title winning side from last year. Yes Gomez/Matip is out too but please. Injuries... Mourinho was right.

  9. CLOSE!published at 41 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

Oooh, so nearly two! Southampton win it in midfield. Danny Ings beats Jordan Henderson to the ball and flicks it on to sub Nathan Tella.

He drives on, cuts inside and goes for the curler - just wide!

At times it's pretty much 4-2-4 from the Saints. They go at you hard.

Liverpool have started slowly but you have to give credit to Southampton. Scoring after three minutes with a wonderful lob from Danny Ings against his former side has really given them confidence.

Liverpool have found it a bit difficult, but Southampton have matched them and been really good.

Ben Kellow: The league is wide open. Nobody is performing consistently.

Half a chance for Liverpool as Thiago hits a ball out wide early to free Sadio Mane, he comes inside on to his right foot but can't control the strike and lifts it well over.

He can't carry on. Theo Walcott moves out wide as Moussa Djenepo is helped off, on comes Nathan Tella.

The energy, intensity and work rate is there for Southampton. They've made a number of changes but they have not been affected by them.

Southampton look bright and have been really good so far.

Another muscle injury? Moussa Djenepo goes down in a heap and looks to have twanged something.

Ar vind: This could be a long night for Liverpool. Injuries have really crippled this side.

Sho: Walcott's lack of football intelligence massively on show here, keeps coming short when there's so much space in behind the Liverpool defence. Giving his team no out ball.

  18. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

Really good football. Stuart Armstrong clips one over the top, Jordan Henderson doesn't know where the ball or Danny Ings are, Ings takes it on the chest and lays it off to Moussa Djenepo.

He's got to go for the first-time curler but can't keep it down and clips it over the bar.

    Karen Carney

Liverpool are not moving the ball quick enough or sharp enough and that's why Jurgen Klopp has been frustrated. You miss so much in terms of leadership when Jordan Henderson is not in the midfield.
