Chelsea need to give Frank Lampard more time.

They knew he was only in his second year as a manager when he joined the club so at some point, there was going to be a period when there were challenges.

This is one of those periods, with Saturday's gritty 1-0 win over Fulham only their second Premier League victory in seven games. And on Tuesday they travel to in-form Leicester City, who are third in the table, four places and six points above the Blues.

When Lampard came in there wasn't any expectation. He had a smaller squad, he had lost Eden Hazard and there was a transfer ban. He could only work with the group of players he had.

That only got them so far. In order to compete, they needed to invest more money in better players. Lampard has done that - so now there is definitely a different expectation.

  2. 'We've not reached our best yet'published at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2021

FT: West Ham 2-1 West Brom

    West Ham United

West Ham goalscorer Michail Antonio speaking to BT Sport: "We started the season well, 32 points in the league and last season we only finished on 39. We give 100% every day but didn't manage to keep a clean sheet this week but it's another win so we keep pushing on.

"As a striker you want to be out there and play and score goals so that's what I'm doing now and hopefully can keep it going on.

"It's unbelievable to be part of this squad at the moment, the chemistry is so good in the squad this season and we're not playing at our best. We're still learning to play with each other but we manage to still get wins - things are looking good but the fact is we've not reached our best yet and we can be better.

"Over yjr last few years we would've lost these types of games but this season we keep scoring and just keep winning."

  4. 'Must-win game for Chelsea'published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2021

Leicester City v Chelsea (20:15 GMT)

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on 5 Live Sports Extra

For Chelsea this is a must-win - if they don't win tonight they're out of distance and the gap is getting bigger and bigger and potentially too big to finish in that top four/two or even challenge. There's less pressure on Leicester, yes they can go top if they win tonight but no-one is saying Leicester should be winning the league this season or saying they need to win tonight. People look at Chelsea and expect them to be higher than Leicester, Leicester can go out there and enjoy the game.

    Leicester v Chelsea (20:15 GMT)

Leicester name the same starting XI that beat Southampton 2-0 last-time out.

That means Wesley Fofana, who was substituted after 53 minutes in that game, retains his place in the side while Caglar Soyuncu is on the bench.
