    Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

Jamie Murphy gets an early shot away, courtesy of a lovely pass from Joe Newell. The on-loan Rangers man doesn't catch it right, and it takes a deflection behind for a corner.

Kevin Nisbet then glances a header over the bar. Decent start by the visitors.

  3. 'There's a separation from wellbeing and football' - Rosspublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2021

    Celtic v Hibernian (19:45)

Hibernian manager Jack Ross on Sportsound: "We made the request. There were three parties involved, the two teams and the governing body who oversees the league.

"In fairness, it was explained why the SPFL felt it wasn't required. We may not agree with it but we accept it in terms of the alternative for us was not a good one - not being here to play the game tonight.

"I think we took on board the concerns some of our players and staff had and had to relay that to the people who govern our game.

"For us, if we weren't here to play the game tonight we would have forfeited the fixture and received further punishment via points. It's not a nice situation to be in because there's a separation from wellbeing and football."

When asked if players were given the opportunity not to play, Ross said: "The players were always focused on their football."

  5. Celtic 'should apologise profusely'published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2021

    Celtic v Hibernian (19:45)

Celtic "should just apologise profusely" after their trip to Dubai was followed by 13 players having to isolate over Covid-19 protocols, says former first minister Henry McLeish.

"It's a terrible message to be sending young Celtic fans, any other fans of clubs. It doesn't go down well with people because it comes down to this idea of one law for them, one law for us.

"Celtic, as the great football club they are, should just apologise profusely for making a mistake."

Hibernian's request for Celtic players to be re-tested before Monday's match was turned down.

And McLeish commented: "What about goodwill? What about a big club making a concession to a smaller club. What about reassuring the Hibs players that they're playing football not having the possibility of contracting the virus?"

    Celtic v Hibernian (19:45)

More from Celtic first-team coach Gavin Strachan.

"We've got to look to win every single game and keep pressure on Rangers," he said.

"Football presents opportunities for players in strange ways and this is one of the strangest ways, so hopefully they can step up and put on a good performance."

Strachan also confirmed Shane Duffy returned a negative test after leaving the bubble to visit family for personal reasons, and so was available for selection tonight.

  7. 'It's been a whirlwind' - Strachanpublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2021

    Celtic v Hibernian (19:45)

Celtic first-team coach Gavin Strachan, who is taking the team tonight in the absence of Neil Lennon and John Kennedy, has been speaking on Sportsound.

"It's been a bit of a whirlwind, you just go into overdrive to try and try to organise a team and a system," he said.

"The club's said - we've followed the protocols we've been using all season for European and domestic games. It's a training camp we've been to before the purpose of that was to ramp up the training with a bit more focus in the warmer weather.

"Obviously the climate changed when we were over there which was unfortunate, and this has been the outcome."

  8. Celtic's turnaroundpublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2021

    Celtic v Hibernian (19:45)

It's worth remembering that this time last year, Celtic were returning from Dubai and about to embark on a run of nine straight wins which would ultimately clinch a ninth straight title.

Fast forward 12 months and they are relying on a shadow side to close a 22-point gap on Rangers as they desperately try to salvage hopes of 10-in-a-row, with their manager confined to his own house.

  9. Postpublished at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2021

The other big story of the day is of course that all leagues below the Championship in Scotland have been suspended for three weeks from midnight tonight. That includes the Scottish Cup, but Camelon v Brora Rangers in the first round will go ahead tonight.

Someone at leadership level should say 'Guys this is not a good idea'. Someone should have stood up, questioned it and made a leadership decision not to go.

Forget the result against Rangers. [Think of] All of the other mitigating circumstances regarding the health crisis, the increase of restrictions. All of those things.

    Celtic v Hibernian (19:45)

There's no doubt that's a weaker Celtic team than usual, but there still a few players who would have been in and around the XI anyway, you would suspect.

Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull can continue in midfield, Tom Rogic is a quality operator, and Callum McGregor features too. First-team coach Gavin Strachan takes the team.

Obvious absentees are Scott Brown, Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer, goalkeepers Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain. The bench is mostly made up of youth players, though.

It's not clear what the "severe consequences" Hibernian's statement refers to are. But one might assume it could mean a forfeit of the points, or a fine if they were to pull out of the match.

Those were the punishments handed down to St Mirren and Kilmarnock for failing to play matches, which is of course, subject to an appeal.
