  1. 'In a bad place'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves captain Conor Coady speaking to BBC Sport: "We're in a really bad place and we need to put it right as soon as possible. We thought we could build on what happened midweek against Chelsea but we didn't and it’s hard to know what to say.

"It’s been a tough season for us but it’s only us that can put it right. It’s important we look at it and improve. We’re professionals, we’re lucky to do this job every day of our lives and we have to put it right in the second half of the season.

"We’ve got fantastic players but something's going wrong and we need to work out what that is and solve it."

  2. 'Eze scores very good goals'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Wolves

    Crystal Palace

More from Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "I am always surprised at the way people phrases their questions. When you are in the place in the table that we are, it is not unusual to go several games without a win.

"You keep grinding away and keep working away to defend properly. You hope the attacking talent you have got will win you a game like it did today.

"The changes weren't as spectacular - six changes - but it was pretty much like-for-like. The only real change was Michy Batshuayi because he hasn't played as much. We do have that ability. We have enough players and quality in the squad to give guys a rest without really changing the system.

"[Eberechi Eze] is a good player and is doing very well. I don't think he will be a tap-in man. The goals he gets will be up there for goals of the month. He scores very good goals. The important thing is the goals he has got is a very good return for a midfield player."

  3. 'Every victory is important'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Wolves

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "Every victory is so important. You are looking at a point a game really to keep you in the league. Our attitude was good from the start. We played against a well organised team. We knew we would find it hard. A good goal opened it up for us. We held out and if Wilfried Zaha's shot had gone in we might have had a quieter last few minutes than we had!

"In the second half we went back more to the system we have had. We brought Eberechi Eze into the middle more but we ended up with Wilfried Zaha more central again.

"Jordan Ayew in particular, his work-rate was exceptional, and it is that type of work-rate that has given us the three points.

"I think we are fairly stable with the performances that we give. It's very rare I stand here saying 'we need a response'. I don't feel like doing it today either just because we had a bad first half against a good West Ham team in the last match.

"When you're playing Man City away, you know however well you play or how hard you work, you need a large slice of luck. West Ham are in a similar place at the moment. Hopefully now we will play against teams that won't take every single chance they take against us so ideally we can pick up more points. We are way ahead of the curve. We are modest enough and we are around 12 points away so we will keep working towards those victories."

  4. 'Real world, not a fairytale'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

FT: Manchester City 1-0 Sheffield United

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to BBC Sport: "People think if we won the last one 5-0, we will win this one 5-0. This is the real world, not a fairytale.

"Today when I see Sheffield is bottom of the league. You see his team and realise how tough is the Premier League. We always struggle to beat them every season. It was an incredible performance. We played incredibly well in many areas. We conceded few chances. We didn’t create much but enough to win the game.

"Everyone has to be ready. They are so humble. Ferran Torres and Gabriel Jesus are always thinking about the team. I’m so grateful for them.

On their 12-game winning run: “In December and January to show this consistency is amazing. We will drop points, it’s about how we overcome it.

“In this league every game is so difficult. Hopefully we react good in the bad moments which for sure are coming."

  5. 'It's been a decent week'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

FT: Manchester City 1-0 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder: "We’ve not been cut open by an unbelievable piece of brilliance. The players were up against a team who can produce at any time, not just against us but anyone in the division and in Europe.

"Our aim was to stay in the game and open up a bit late on. I don’t want a pat on the back. If people think we can open up from the off, you know what will happen.

"We’re alive and have a desire to compete. If you go a goal down here, it could become quite a long afternoon. I thought we grew into the game, which was really key.

"We changed shape late on, chucked the three boys on at the top of the pitch. They can kill you off on the counter-attack, but you hope for that one break or set-piece. Our season is not going to be defined by what happened today, but it’s been a decent week for us.

"You’ve seen a team that’s fighting for their lives and can cause teams problems."

The players have just gone back in after their warm ups and the television camera I am viewing understandably spent most of its time focused on Arsenal's new signing Martin Odegaard.

I'm really excited to see what he can do in the Premier League, although hopefully not at the expense of Emile Smith Rowe.

Mikel Arteta believes the attacking midfielders can play in the same team as each other, it will be interesting to see who Odegaard comes on for, if he does come on.

  7. 'Still the players run and fight like animals'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    Man City 1-0 Sheff Utd

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to Sky Sports: “It was so difficult. We knew it would be. It was amazing after this run of 12 wins in a row. Still the players run and fight like animals. We conceded one chance at the end. Sheffield United are a difficult opponent. Every time we play them we struggle.

"We said this will be one of the toughest games of the season and it was. The weather is the same for both sides. It’s so difficult because they defend with 10 players. Their team have been together a long time so they know what to do. Nothing is given just because we are blue.

"We started good. We maintained it in the second half. We struggle because they are a very good side. They are alive, you can feel it. They shout, they talk, they stick together until the end."

Mikel Arteta is starting to put his identity on the team but he has made poor signings as well that just haven't worked, take Willian.

The young players though are desperate to do well - Emile Smith Rowe has been a breath of fresh air and it seems like Arteta has found the right position for Bukayo Saka on the right hand side now.

It's just such a shame that fans are not in the grounds. They make such a difference.

Bruno Fernandes's stats are remarkable. If you play in his team and you are a forward, you must absolutely love him. Every time he gets the ball he looks forward and tries to play the strikers in.

For Arsenal, this is a massive game - a real test for them.

It has been a year since Bruno Fernandes signed for Manchester United and his arrival has "single-handedly" changed the fortunes of the club, according to one pundit.

Prior to Fernandes joining from Sporting Lisbon for £47m in last season's January transfer window, the Red Devils had suffered back-to-back to defeats and were in fifth place in the league, a huge 30 points adrift of eventual Premier League champions Liverpool.

A remarkable turnaround now sees United second in the table and fans dreaming of title 21 in 2021, although those hopes were hit by Wednesday's 2-1 home defeat by Sheffield United.

BBC Sport assesses the impact the midfielder has had in his year at Old Trafford and, despite being at the club for just 12 months, asks if it merits him being the Premier League's best January signing.

  11. 'We can be proud'published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

FT: Manchester City 1-0 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United defender George Baldock, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think when you come up against Man City you can take being cut open by a bit of magic. It was disappointing conceding in the manner that we did, but no excuses. We had a game plan and tried to nick something near the end.

"They’re going to pose questions. We’re a little disappointed in the manner of the goal, but that's been the story of our season. We've come up against probably the best team in the world right now, on current form. We've given them a game.

"Our game plan was just to stick in the game. John Fleck hit a great strike near the end. That was the kind of thing we were hanging on. I think we can be proud of our efforts.

"To get the two Manchester clubs out of the way now will help. We understand we've got to pick up results and pick them up quickly. We've been bitterly disappointed with our season, but if we can take this into our last 17 matches or so we'll give ourselves half a chance."

  12. 'We have a lot of concerns'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo: "First half, the organisation was good but not so much offensively. The second half was not so great. We did not move the ball well. Not a good game.

"We were organised but we didn't threaten enough like we should do. We should have defended well. We had a few chances also but we didn't recover the ball like we should do. We have a lot of concerns - creativity, speed and breaking the lines - we should do better.

"It takes hard work and commitment from all of us. It's something we have to sit down and talk about. We must improve fast. I don't think it has to do with confidence. It is about finding our game. We must be much faster when we recover the ball. We were always a threat on the counter-attack, now we make too many passes."

Toughest period as Wolves manager? "For sure, yes. Not only for us but for all the teams. The edge the atmosphere that gives you... But honestly, is it the biggest challenge ahead of us? Yes it is. We should step up for it."

  14. 'We cannot drop points at home'published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    Man City 1-0 Sheff Utd

    Manchester City

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus: "That’s what we want, win the game. At the end of the season we’ll see if we fight for the title. This season is a difficult season for everyone. We cannot drop at home. We did not drop and won the game.

"We have to look at our job. We are first, top of the league. We have to go to the pitch and try to win the games. At home we cannot drop points.

"It’s important [to end his goal drought]. To play for a top club I have to score. Today we didn’t have the space to play. I have the first chance, I scored and that’s good for me and the team."

  15. 'Proud of our reaction'published at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    FT: West Brom 2-2 Fulham

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom goalscorer Kyle Bartley: "We had to keep the ball better, it felt very panicked and you could see the lack of confidence out there - we started the second half brilliantly and are devastated to not get the three points.

"It couldn't have got much worse than the first half but we can be really proud of our reaction and spirit to get back into the game.

"It was good to see that fight, the least we could do in the second half, winning first balls, second balls, the basic things we didn't do in the first half.

"What else can you do, we have to give it (staying up) our best shot and hopefully we can do it."

  16. 'A long time coming'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Wolves

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace matchwinner Eberechi Eze speaking to BBC Sport: "It’s been a long time coming. It’s not been going for us but today we’re grateful to win. We always put in the work and try to do the best we can but it hasn’t come off at times. It’s been a didffiuclt run but we’ve put it right today.

"With the quality we’ve got in our team, we always know we’re capable of creating chances. I just saw the ball roll across the box, tried to create a bit of space so I could get my shot off.

"Now, we want to be looking up the table, getting points on the board and climbing up as fast as we can."

  17. 'Fulham will be fuming'published at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    FT: West Brom 2-2 Fulham

    Danny Murphy
Former Liverpool and England midfielder on BBC One

We have to give some credit to West Brom for finding a way to come back.

The reaction was great, Pereira was good and Diagne looked lively.

The momentum shift was monumental. Fulham will be fuming because in the first half they were really, really good.

Adama Traore's cross is just too high for Fabio Silva. It's kept in by Nelson Semedo on the far side though and he curls it in for Willian Jose. Again, he's stretching with the header.
