It's weird I know this but Barnet had four players with double-barrelled surnames in their XI today.

Jeffrey, Hebden Bridge: If Saints sign Maitland-Niles from Arsenal in this transfer window will they become the team with the most double-barrelled players in the league?

They already have James Ward-Prowse and Kyle Walker-Peters.

  4. 'A step forward'published at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm pleased with the performance. We come away with a clean sheet and we had good chances [to win the game]. We need to get our forwards firing again. That's the next step now.

"I felt first half we dominated. Second half was more end-to-end but we had a good period and they had a period.

"The Sheffield United result of course was disappointing when you're at home. If you feel, away at Arsenal, you deserve a win that's a step forward."

Southampton v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Southampton's solitary victory in seven league matches came at home to Liverpool on 4 January (D3, L3).

They only scored three goals in those fixtures.

Nonetheless, 29 points is Southampton's second-highest tally at the halfway stage of a Premier League season.

A sixth home league win of the season would match their total for the whole of the previous campaign.

The Saints also need one more Premier League clean sheet to equal the nine they kept last season.

Villa have gone four away league matches without a win, losing the past three and conceding at least twice in each defeat.

However, Dean Smith's side have already equalled last season's final tally of nine Premier League victories.

Aston Villa will have recorded their best points total at the halfway point of a Premier League season since 2009-10, regardless of today's result.

  8. 'You can't control whether players will take their chances'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to Sky Sports: "Good performance, two massive chances in the second half but unfortunately it wasn't to be. We had the greater share of possession, the better chances, there was a spell in the second half we dropped off but apart from that I'm pleased with the boys.

"I felt we had the upper hand but didn't get Paul [Pogba] in the game and we wanted him to get on the ball more and Anthony [Martial] to drive at them. We wanted Paul to dictate the play more.

"It [was] definitely a disappointing one [losing to Sheffield United on Wednesday]. Today they did what they should do. You can't control if they take the chances or not."

On taking one point from the last six available: "We take the point and move on to Southampton on Tuesday. It's like an NBA season this, on the road again."

Aston Villa's midweek defeat against Burnley was a real thriller, and this should be another good game.

Both of these sides are attack-minded, and they both have individual match-winners too. I'm going for a Saints win, but it is very hard to call it.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-1

  10. 'I'm scratching my head'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

FT: Manchester City 1-0 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

    Here's some reaction from earlier

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, speaking to Match of the Day: "We’ve not dominated the game - I don’t think many teams do here - but we’re playing a world-class team who are on an incredible run. It’s a long way back when you fall behind to Man City early on, but we gave ourselves a chance to get something out of the game at the end. Unfortunately we didn’t.

"There’s been stuff we’ve not been good at. We’ve won a couple of games and had a couple of tight games against Spurs and Man City. From my point of view, we’re alive. I’m scratching my head at times to understand the position we’re in, but we have a belief, fight and togetherness that we can pick up a couple of wins before the end of the season.

"The game opened up. Aaron [Ramsdale]’s kept us in it. Our position isn’t determined by any particular player, but we’re together – as seen by today’s performance. We need to keep our head down, work hard and keep going into our next run of games.

"It’s the big moments we have to take. The big moment today was their goal, which was a gift in my opinion. I’m not saying we’re on a charge, but we’re going to give it a right go."

  12. 'We have to win these games'published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw speaking to Sky Sports: "[It's] two points dropped I feel. I felt we were in control, Arsenal had a spell but we were comfortable and had countless massive chances we haven't taken. It would have been a brilliant result winning here, we have to be winning these games.

"The chances we had, I don't think it's acceptable to come away with a point - I haven't been in the changing room yet but I'm sure the lads will be disappointed.

"At times we were too slow. Second half we were sloppy and gave the ball away. We didn't look like we wanted to play. We created the chances and failed to score again and it cost us two points.

"We dropped points in midweek and again here. If we want to be in the title race we have to be winning these games. I don't know what more to say."

  17. 'We are creating a real team with a real atmosphere'published at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2021

    Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd

    Arsenal

Arsenal defender David Luiz speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm frustrated because we love to win. We tried our best, that's it. We have to try to improve every day, you have to be humble and to admit what you need to improve.

"The boss is doing a great job, the young boys are fantastic and I think we are starting to create a real team with a real atmosphere.

"But if you don't work hard every single day things can change. The boys are happy because we have turned around a very difficult moment in our season.

"You have to be humble because we are far from the first positions. We have to think game by game and at the end of the season we will see how far we can go.

"The ambition is to be fighting for the first positions - that ambition has to be there. This is what we have to put in our minds every single day."

On celebrating one of his blocks like a goal: "I think [he is] one of the best players in the league in free-kicks, Bruno [Fernandes] is amazing, he can decide [games] in those moments - a free-kick in that position. He even spoke to me after because he tried to surprise everyone but I was happy because I was ready and stopped a goal."
