Brighton have played some superb stuff tonight, what a counter this is as Neal Maupay and Dan Burn link up on the left and free Leandro Trossard, he spins his man and lashes in a shot which is well kept out by Caoimhin Kelleher again!

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti to BT Sport: "I’m pleased. The reaction after the Newcastle defeat was very good. We played very well in the second half. It was difficult. The goal was to have three points. We won through a really good first half.

“Robin Olsen did well. He knows his role. He is confident. He’s an experienced goalkeeper."

On Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring: “I’m happy because the team scored. It doesn’t matter who scored. I was really pleased with him - not because he scored - because he worked hard.

“Joshua King is going to complete the squad in front, he can play everywhere – front, right, centre.”

Liverpool's title defence has been very tame - long way to go and all that but this is embarrassing! Over confidence is a lesson worth learning.

    Nick in Kent

Hopefully we can just concentrate on top four and try and do well in the champions league. Yes the injuries have been horrific but the regulars who are left have been awful for Liverpool this season.

    Dan in London

Sad to see a Liverpool side with so little creativity in midfield. Winaldum is the best player Brighton have in the middle!

  8. 'We had chances to draw or win'published at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2021

    Leeds 1-2 Everton

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, speaking to BT Sport: "It is a game where we could easily have drawn. We could perhaps have had more than a draw. In the first half we had an initial 30 minutes that was good and in the final 15 it was difficult for us to create any danger. In the second half the idea was to prevent them from scoring and to get back into it and while after the 2-1 we had chances to draw or win.

"It is always important to win games. It doesn't matter about the circumstances, be it home or away."

The notion of this season being close is going to be dispelled over the next couple weeks - City are going to walk it.

    Dom in London

Liverpool have a single tactic: crowd the area around the penalty box and try squeeze the ball through. It doesn't work.

    Rob in Finchley

Stick Man City's name on the trophy now. It's done.

Andrew Mitchell: Chuffed for Jesse Lingard

Uncle Busby: Not ashamed to admit I cheered Lingard’s goal as a Red just as vigorously as I did any of our 9 last night. Let him find his confidence and get him back Ole.

Steven Alzate's goal was the first shot on target in this match. I think it actually went in off Leandro Trossard so he may lose that one.

That is a very well worked goal, that comes from Dan Burn in front of the dugout. He was right in front of Jurgen Klopp and he pinged a lovely ball into the centre of the pitch.

There's three or four Brighton players attacking that ball in the box, it's so positive. That goal hasn't surprised me at all that Brighton have scored first.
