The referee completely lost control, he seemed to forget the rules. I have never seen that before, it was quite bizarre.

The whole situation and how that was dealt with was an embarrassment. One minute it was given then it wasn't and then it went to VAR - you need someone to take control and explain and then it stops everything that we've just seen happen from happening.

My opinion is Lee Mason blew his whistle to start the play, so Lewis Dunk took the free-kick, but the referee hadn't checked if the goalkeeper was ready.
I am pretty sure Dunk wasn't intending to take the free-kick, it's just a brilliant bit of quick thinking. It looked like West Brom were close to the ball and asking if they had time, but he blew it before they could get set.

Having initially awarded the goal, Lee Mason has now disallowed it and ordered it to be re-taken. What a shambles.

Lewis Dunk
Incredible! Brighton are level after West Brom are caught out by Lewis Dunk's quickly-taken free-kick following Conor Gallagher's foul on Alexis Mac Allister.
Dunk fires it beyond Sam Johnstone from about 20-yards but the Baggies are furious it has been allowed to stand.

Almost another for the home side as the blue-haired Mbaye Diagne manages to get his head on the end of a cross which is fizzed in but falls wide. The Baggies are looking decent.

Has anyone done any analysis of the success percentage of quirky penalty attempts (stuttering run-up, panenka etc) versus 'proper' ones? Seems to me that players miss those as often as they score them

Wow, life really is hard as a Brighton fan. Haven't been able to score all season, mixed with bad luck and now relegation is seriously threatening.

That was a poor penalty by Pascal Gross.
He hit it with force but it was rising all the time.
Gross has missed two of his last four penalties in the Premier League.

Correct decision, definitely. On first viewing it just seemed crazy. He put his left arm into the air and it's his left hand that makes contact. Very good use of the VAR.

Replays show Okay Yokuslu handled the ball while trying to clear a Brighton corner. Play continued for several moments before Lee Mason was advised to go and look at it on the screen.
Mason doesn't take long to make up his mind. Brighton have a route back into this.

The keeper should be coming for that - the fact he had a cap on it's like he's got a blindfold on. Kyle Bartley wanted that ball more than anyone else. The hat is now discarded behind the goal because that has not helped him.

Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez has reacted to that goal by getting rid of his cap! It's on the floor on the side of the pitch. That didn't last long.

Sam Allardyce will be absolutely delighted with the start his side have made.
They've forced Brighton on to the back foot, had several corners and tried the same thing each time - put it into that six-yard box and give your players a chance to attack the ball.
