Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, speaking to Sky Sports: "You’ve got to be at your best to beat Liverpool. They’re one of the top sides in England and Europe. You have to have your best players available and be on top form. Unfortunately, right now we’re not.

"There’s always spirit there. I look at the faces of my players in the changing room. They’ve given absolutely everything. This is a really tough gig for them because of the season we’ve had.

"We’ve come up, we’ve exceeded expectations. There’s a gulf in class and a difference in depth of squad. But I always believe we have the opportunity to win every game. It was 0-0 at half-time and we had chances.

"Our model is 17th in the division. We try to buy the best Championship players and be that kind of club. To be an established Premier League club, the gulf is too much.

"I don’t think anyone can question our attitude or commitment. Sometimes you’re not good enough and you don’t have the quality to compete. At the moment we don’t have that quality."

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, speaking to BBC MOTD: "This is exactly what we needed. It’s what we’ve needed for a while.

Did you know your cross leading to the the first goal was still in play?: "I didn’t really, it goes down to the finest of margins with VAR. You never know these days. I was stretching but we were happy to get a goal.

"We haven’t been bad in the last few weeks, we just haven’t been able to get results.

"It’s a results business so it’s important to get the win.

"When games aren’t going well you want that break to get things right. The week without a game has done us good, we’ve been able to work together and get the practice in as a new backline."

Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We had a right go but lacked quality and strength in depth. You need your best players to be at top of game. You need a bit more in this division because it's brutal and it exposes you.

"Liverpool have got some world-class players because not only have they been successful on the European stage but also the world stage.

"The two goals we conceded were really disappointing. You have to be perfect out of possession and perfect in possession against Liverpool and we weren't.

"We haven't taken chances that have come to us. There in a nutshell is our season. We're not defending anywhere near as well as we did last season."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Everyone who sees Sheffield United playing knows you have to work really hard against them.

"We created an awful lot and should have been 3-0 up. Andy Robertson could have had a hat-trick.

"The clean sheet is very important. Adrian showed pure class and character. I'm really happy for him. He was very front-footed. That was a really good game."

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports:

“The plan was to keep going and do the same stuff again. When we could play like we wanted to play, they couldn’t deal with us.

“Sheffield United have lost a lot but all by the smallest margin. It’s clear these games stay exciting until the very end. We could have scored three in the first half. What we created was very good. The finishing was good enough for today, but we can improve.

“It’s normal that we’re criticized, people have written us off. That's fine.

[On Curtis Jones]: “He is a top player, that’s why he’s playing. He has to be involved more in goalscoring situations, like everywhere there is space for improvement.”

[On Roberto Firmino’s strike being ruled an own goal]: “He had a goal, who cares? For him it counts, if it’s not in the stats, I don’t care.

“This was about us showing we’re still there. We play Chelsea on Thursday, we have to show it again. We have to win football games, we know that. There’s no way into the Champions League without results. Tonight we got it, we keep going.”

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp to Sky: "Plenty of people have written us off. That's fine. With all the problems we have had we're still around the exciting places."

Sheffield United keeper Aaron Ramsdale, speaking to Sky Sports: "We gave everything tonight. For the first half and most of the second half we gave a good account of ourselves.

"They are world-class players and can do that to any team. It's definitely a disappointing dressing room because we could possibly have got something out of that,

"There's been a few times this season I could possibly have done better. It's nice to make a few saves tonight but that is my job. Some of the criticism I have received has been justified. Some hasn't."

"It’s been a difficult time for me and the rest of the team.

"This goal is for Ally’s dad. If he sees this, this is for you bro.

"He’s a strong lad and a big part of the team. We miss him for sure. I’m dedicating my goal to him and his dad, and his family.

"It was a good team performance. I’m happy that we get the points and we can go again.

"Today was a good example of putting it all together. I am happy I score and I’m happy for the rest of the team."

Curtis Jones is being interviewed by Sky Sports. His first words are to play tribute to Alisson's dad who has passed away suddenly.

Liverpool remain sixth in the table, two points off a top-four spot.
