Liverpool are still not firing on all cylinders which is unsurprising considering their injuries and absences but this has been much better by Jurgen Klopp's side. A professional job in the Steel City.

It's official. Liverpool's second goal has gone down as a Kean Bryan own goal. Roberto Firmino might have something to say about that.

    Sheff Utd 0-2 Liverpool

Both sides have made more changes for the final few minutes.

United have sent on Billy Sharp for Robert Fleck while Curtis Jones has been replaced by Naby Keita.

Jones, by the way, has been excellent in midfield.

    How did he miss that?

Mo Salah - of all people - puts it wide from inside the six yard area after the Reds get behind the Blades defence again.

He screams at himself for not scoring.

Owen: Nat Phillips has been brilliant, yet again. Great back up option. As if we were going to offload last summer? Give him a contract!

Klopp finally plays defenders in defence and midfielders in midfield, and the team look far more solid. Surprised?

Thiago's work is done. He's put in a decent shift - and managed to avoid a yellow card. James Milner is on in his place.

First-time shot by Andy Robertson. He hits it with real venom High and wide. There's only one team in this now.

There's a huge debate taking place about whether that was Roberto Firmino's goal - or an own goal by Kean Bryan.

Was it going wide before it took a deflection off the Blades player?

Liverpool won't be too bothered. They have a two-goal cushion and that's all that matters.

It's all about game management for Liverpool now. See this one out without incident. If only it was that easy.

Roberto Firmino has scored Liverpool's 7,000th goal in top-flight league football - the Reds are only the second side to reach that landmark in England's top tier (also Everton, 7,108)

Roberto Firmino plays a one-two with Sadio Mane ,he twists and jiggles - there's three or four Sheffield United players round it but they're daren't make a tackle in the 18 yard box and Kean Bryan goes to make the block but it hits him and ricochets into the ground and goes past Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale is just wrong footed and he is absolutely distraught because he's probably thinking he can make the save if it didn't come off Bryan.

It's a long way back for Sheffield United but they're still plugging away.

Oliver Burke fizzes a cross into the six-yard area but he's over-cooked it and it flies out of play.

    Breathing space for Liverpool.

It's all about Roberto Firmino, who starts and finishes an excellent move which involves a one-two with Sadio Mane.

There's a chunk of good fortune about the finish which comes off a Blades player and loops past Aaron Ramsdale into the net but it was all about the foot work.

Great stuff by Liverpool's No 9.

Adrian is bellowing instructions to his team-mates. Did they hear him?

Moments later Oli McBurnie is in behind the defence and is just about to shoot when Ozan Kabak makes up ground to produce an excellent challenge.

Then Oliver Norwood drills a shot well wide.

Sheffield United have not given up on this.

Curtis Jones is a real asset to Liverpool. He's only 20 and he'll just get better.

Big chance for Oli McBurnie but he can't get his header on target. It fall agonisingly wide of Adrian's post. A warning to Liverpool that they still have work to do.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has had one of his better games.

He somehow manages to wiggle himself into a shooting position inside the box but drags it wide.

Liverpool are very much on top but still only one goal in it.

Sadio Mane has the ball in the back of the Sheffield United net but it won't count.

By the way, that was Curtis Jones' second Premier League goal, and first away from home.

He certainly enjoyed it judging by the celebrations.
