We have seen more intricate passing in the final third from Reading. They have looked more likely to score from their opportunities.

In the latter stages Everton were getting numbers forward but it's Reading who go in the happier side at half-time.

It's a deserved lead and Everton will be looking to adapt their tactics in the second half.

    Reading 1-0 Everton

Rachel Rowe's cool finish has earned Reading a deserved half-time lead at the Madejski.

The Wales winger slid in at the far post to tuck home an Emma Mitchell cross.

Reading enjoyed all the clear chances in that first half as Amalie Eikeland hit the post and saw an earlier effort saved by Tinja-Riikka Korpela.

    Work for Everton to do.

  3. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2021

    Reading 1-0 Everton

It might be desperation but Ingrid Moe Wold is convinced Everton should have a penalty in first-half stoppage time.

Her cross hits Molly Bartrip from fairly close range but the referee is unmoved.

    Reading 1-0 Everton

Izzy Christiansen lets fly from 30 yards but it's straight at Reading keeper Grace Moloney.

That's her first real save - it's not been a great half for the Toffees.

    Reading 1-0 Everton

Amalie Eikeland is finding pockets of space among the Everton defence every time Reading go forward.

This time, her low cross strikes a Toffees player and is deflected behind for a corner.

The short corner routine looks promising at first but Everton clear. Almost half-time now.

    Reading 1-0 Everton

Reading are looking so much sharper than their visitors, a lovely, flowing, one-touch counter-attack creating another shooting opportunity.

Emma Mitchell's effort is speculative, flying over from 30 yards but all the shots are coming from the hosts.

    Reading 1-0 Everton

What do Everton have now, then? They are facing a fourth defeat in six games.

And their response to conceding has been fairly muted thus far.

Rachel Rowe continues her fine form this season, scoring goals. She arrived at the far post with perfect timing to smash it into the back of the net.

On the balance of play, you'd have to say it's a deserved lead for the hosts.

Amalie Eikeland was again involved with a bustling run down the left after a neat break by Jess Fishlock.

The Norwegian's cut-back is cut out but Everton fail to clear and Rachel Rowe pounces to volley home Emma Mitchell's return ball at the far post.

It's not one Everton keeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela will want to see again as she was caught out by the cross back in, beaten to the ball by Danielle Carter, leaving Rowe an empty net to fire in to.

    Reading 0-0 Everton

This is better from Everton now - a decent spell of possession in and around the Reading box.

The ball ultimately breaks to Izzy Christiansen but she drags a shot wide from just inside the area.

    Reading 0-0 Everton

The first effort at goal from Everton and it's hardly worthy of the name.

Valerie Gauvin leaps to meet Rikke Sevecke's cross on the stretch but her header is well wide.

    Reading 0-0 Everton

Alisha Lehmann has looked a bright spark for Everton when she's had the ball in the final third but those moments have been few and far between.

She helps win a corner but it's over-hit and Reading are really limiting the visitors to very little threat.

Everton seem to be showing signs of frustration, while Reading are keeping the ball well.

But both sides seem to be cancelling themselves out in terms of possession.

It's been a feisty affair, with tackles flying in. It's been an evenly matched game.

    Reading 0-0 Everton

Amalie Eikeland has been at the centre of everything in this game and now draws a foul from Jill Scott on halfway.

The Reading attack comes to nothing but the hosts are on top here and should really be ahead.

  15. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 25 mins

    Reading 0-0 Everton

    Huge chance for Reading.

After the yellow card challenge, the free-kick is floated deep to the far post when Amalie Eikeland steals in but volleys on to the post.

Tash Harding heads the rebound goalwards but Megan Finnigan nods it over the bar off the line. A crucial intervention by the Toffees defender.

Another sight of goal for Amalie Eikeland for Reading there.

The Norwegian finds a bit of space 20 yards out but her effort is straight at Tinja-Riikka Korpela.

    Reading 0-0 Everton

These two teams drew 1-1 earlier in the season and are stuck together on 18 points in the WSL table.

It shouldn't be surprising that it's been a tight game then. Really still waiting for this one to catch fire.

  19. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Reading 0-0 Everton

Both teams have become a bit scrappy in the last few minutes, with passes not finding their target.

That Amalie Eikeland effort remains the best chance for either team and Reading will be the happier of the two sides thus far.
