I'm not too sure if Wayne Hennessey had that covered or it skipped past him, I think he was glad it went wide. It's hit the deck and skipped up. There is a better shape at the back for Wales now with Neco Williams at the back - more familiar with that role than Tom Lawrence.

  3. CLOSE!published at 76 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

A little reminder that 1-0 is a precarious scoreline as Orbelin Pineda flashes a shot just wide. I think Wayne Hennessey had it covered.

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

I'll tell you who will have enjoyed tonight, Mick McCarthy.

Cardiff have lost a couple of wing-back options to injury in recent weeks and Jonny Williams' performance here will have been eye-opening - possibly - and definitely most welcome.

  5. Postpublished at 73 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

Ooooof, 2016 flashbacks there as Chris Gunter his a perfect 60-yard pass to send Hal Robson-Kanu into some space and Wales win a corner from it.

I don't think the referee is going to book anyone tonight. I'm surprised actually - there have been a couple of clever fouls from both sides that you'd expect to see given yellow cards in a normal game.

Matt Smith has been excellent for Wales tonight, he has kept them ticking over in midfield.

It's hard to see him making the grade at Manchester City, his parent club, but he certainly looks better on this evidence than League One, where he is playing now.

  8. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

We are 75% of the way through this match now and they look as in control of proceedings as they have at any time. The hosts are managing the game really well.

Like Wolves, Mexico really miss Raul Jimenez.

On the wing for Wales? Williams.

On the other wing for Wales? Williams.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

Neco Williams is on for Tom Lawrence, while Brennan Johnson replaces Tyler Roberts.

  11. Postpublished at 63 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

Not that Danny Ward has done anything wrong, but has Wayne Hennessey done enough tonight to earn a start on Tuesday?

In fairness to Hennessey, he only lost his place through injury.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

Jorge Sanches and Rodolfo Pizarro replace Andres Guardado and Luis Rodriguez.

There's a real hunger in this Mexican side, they're not used to losing. They've qualified for 16 World Cups, which is phenomenal.

  14. CLOSE!published at 57 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

Chances at both ends as Josh Sheehan flashes a shot just wide.

That really would have made it a proud night for Newport!

  15. CLOSE!published at 55 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

    Top save Wayne Hennessey.

Orbelin Pineda slips in Hirving Lozano and all Hennessey can do is stay big and make a block... and that's exactly what he does.

He then saves from point-blank range to deny Lozano again, but he's flagged for offside.

    Hennessey has been excellent.

I think that was meant for Matondo behind Robson-Kanu. He might have had an easier chance. It was fantastic play down that right-hand side, Tyler Roberts did really well and worked an opportunity well.

Great seeing Hal Robson-Kanu back in a Wales shirt and he's nearly scored with one of his first touches.

It's another slick passing move from Wales and Jonny Williams and Tyler Roberts combine to cross, but Robson-Kanu's flicked finish is wide of goal. It was a tough chance.

  18. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Wales 1-0 Mexico

Andres Guardado overhits a dangerous free-kick that ends up being neither a shot, nor a cross, nor a threat.

It's a quick pace to the second half once again, not sitting back after the changes. Robson-Kanu can be a pest for the defence, not just Kieffer Moore.

Jesus Corona has a sniff, but fires miles over.

    Belgium have equalised.
