    Poland 1-1 England

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

England weren't clearing their lines and Kyle Walker dived in, you've got to look at the Manchester City defender there, if he doesn't dive in, he doesn't allow the cross to come into the box.

England didn't do enough to clear. There are some tired legs from England, nobody was picking up in the box. England guilty of dropping deep and not coming out with the Polish players.

The finish didn't match the touch. Robert Lewandowski took a touch to his right and tried to bend it into the top corner but just got under it too much.

There's a warning, England have got to be careful now.

Rob: And to think there are still people who doubt Harry Kane! It’s unfathomable. He’s world class and England (and Spurs) are lucky to have him.

Omonuku: What a strike by Harry Kane!!! Unbelievable! Top, top, top player this English team is very formidable and will surely go places.

  9. CLOSE!published at 80 mins

    Poland 0-1 England

    Into the final 10 minutes.

England are experts in game management, oh my goodness. Almost a howler from Jordan Pickford!

The England goalkeeper wants too much time on the ball and Karol Swiderski sticks a leg out at the clearance.

The ball bounces towards the goal but Pickford can get back to grab it on the line.

  10. Kane's 'amazing' goalscoring recordpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 8 September 2021

    Poland 0-1 England

    John Murray
    BBC football correspondent

It's an amazing record that Harry Kane's got.

He's scored in all three of these World Cup qualifiers this month, he scored in all of the qualifiers for Euro 2020, he's scored in all the World Cup qualifiers for Qatar that he's played in.

That is his 41st goal for England, he's left Michael Owen behind now.

    Make that four Polish players.

Karol Linetty now hacks down Harry Kane.

Frustration, anger or just not being able to cope with the better players?

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 77 mins

Tymoteusz Puchacz is the third Polish player to go into the referee's book for a lunge on Raheem Sterling from behind.

  14. Kane silences the crowdpublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 8 September 2021

    Poland 0-1 England

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Warsaw

Harry Kane's goal was met with a groan of disappointment then an eerie silence in this stadium populated with Poland supporters. England had been building pressure and Kane has released it with that fine strike although not so sure about Poland keeper Wojciech Szczesny's part in that.

  15. 'Unbelievable goal'published at 21:22 British Summer Time 8 September 2021

    Poland 0-1 England

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was going to take something special to win this game and that was special, right out of the top drawer.

It was perfectly hit, no deflection, the defender gets close. It bends away from Wojciech Szczesny, who just dives and gets nowhere near it.

There's only one thought in his mind - hit that ball, hit it well, and it's in the back of the net. Unbelievable goal.

Now Harry Kane hits the deck after a coming together with - you guessed it - Kamil Glik.

Neither player is looking too clever here.

  17. goal

GOAL - Poland 0-1 Englandpublished at 71 mins

    Harry Kane

One striker misses, the other doesn't!

Robert Lewandowski couldn't score for Poland a minute ago, England go to the other end and break the deadlock through Harry Kane, who else?

The skipper receives the ball 25-30 yards, spins and leathers a dipping drive which swerves past Wojciech Szczesny and lands in the bottom corner.

Kane scores in a 15th CONSECUTIVE World Cup/European Championship qualifier.

  18. CLOSE!published at 70 mins

    Poland 0-0 England

The goalmachine Robert Lewandowski has been stifled for much of the game but does get a chance when he darts forward to the edge of the box but dribbles a poor effort straight at Jordan Pickford.

  19. Postpublished at 69 mins

    Poland 0-0 England

Bamford, Bellingham, Lingard, Saka, surely time to shake things up a bit and chuck one of those on?

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    Poland 0-0 England

    Another Poland change.

The booked Grzegorz Krychowiak is replaced by Damian Szymanski.

Still no changes made by Gareth Southgate.
