England are used to these sorts of atmospheres now. The intimidation has been ramped up with the racism and everything else.

Everyone wants to beat England. The expectation is that England will just get on with it.

You have to put it to the back of your mind, ignore it, play your game. But this will be a cracking game of football tonight.

Phil's always got an ear out for pre-match tunes at games.

I sent him a trance track once, Drifting Away by Lange which reached number nine in the UK charts, to be precise.

He replied by saying: "What is that noise?!"

    🙄🙄

The volume is building here in Warsaw and we're getting a very loud blast of "Welcome To The Jungle" by Guns 'N Roses to just fire up the Poland fans a little more - not that I suspect they will need much firing up.

England have only lost one of their 20 matches against Poland in all competitions (W12 D7), losing 2-0 in Chorzow in a 1974 World Cup qualifier under Sir Alf Ramsey.

It was a damaging defeat, the Three Lions later failed to qualify for the tournament.

However, England are unbeaten in 17 games against the Poles since (W11 D6).

  6. 'Intimidating atmosphere for England'published at 19:14 British Summer Time 8 September 2021

That team news is very much expected. They did the business against Hungary in Budapest and Gareth Southgate will be looking for them to do the business again tonight.

This will be a really intimidating atmosphere tonight, there's all Polish fans here, not many, if any, English fans here to give the boys some support.

It will be a very partisan crowd, a noisy crowd. We'll see what happens in terms of shouts and this sort of thing that might happen, we hope not.

It's on the pitch that England need to do the business. If they don't lose the game, I think Gareth will be quite happy.

Poland star man Robert Lewandowski missed the game at Wembley but the country's record goalscorer is back for this game.

The Bayern Munich striker has 72 goals in 124 caps and has netted 10 goals in just six games for club and country this season.

  8. 'We can't let our guard down'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 8 September 2021

    Poland v England (19:45 BST)

England boss Gareth Southgate knows his side cannot become complacent as they look to maintain their 100% record in World Cup qualifying tonight.

The Three Lions are top of Group I having won all five of their games so far.

"We are in a good moment and the team is playing well," he said.

"We have a squad of players, any of whom are more than comfortable to play and are playing well.

"But also those moments are dangerous because, if we get any sense of complacency, we are going into a game that will be a challenge.

"It is a high level of motivation but also guarding against a feeling we are better than we are. We are getting a good set of results because we are working hard for each other."

    Poland v England (19:45 BST)

This is a magnificent stadium here in Warsaw and happily the glorious weather means there is no repeat of the World Cup qualifying debacle of 2012 when the state of the art roof was left open in a deluge and the game had to be postponed until the next day.

It promises to be a special atmosphere as the Poland fans start to file in. This will be arguably England's biggest test of their qualifying campaign.
