    Really not sure if Northern Ireland supporters could have taken another decision going against them.

    The TV replays looked like there was no decision to make and that Conor Washington was clearly onside, but it took a while and Northern Ireland fans would no doubt have been fearing the worst after Jamal Lewis's controversial red card on Saturday.

    But that goal was no more than Northern Ireland deserved after how they have lifted themselves from what was a drab opening 15 minutes from both sides.

    Get to half-time a goal up and it will be job done so far for Ian Baraclough's men.

    Chiedozie Ogbene rattles the crossbar!

    Callum Robinson flicks a lovely cross into the Rotherham United man, whose header loops over the keeper and off the frame of the goal.

    Robinson is destined to steal the headlines again, but Ogbene's having a cracking game out there. A hugely exciting prospect for Stephen Kenny's side.

    The onus is on them to get an equaliser, which should allow us to exploit the midfield areas and create more chances. They don't look the best of sides but you can't give them any sort of encouragement at all. There are goals there but there are times we look really sloppy.

    Steven Davis finds Paddy McNair on the right, it's a great ball in and Josh Magennis attacks it.

    It's a strong header and Ivan Karadzhov makes the save, but it's only as far as Conor Washington who taps home the rebound from close range.

    However the flag is up for offside and it's ruled out.

    Conor Bradley jinks between a couple of tackles and wins a corner. Nice stuff by the youngster. The smile on his face is infectious - he's loving his time out there.

    However, Paddy McNair does his best to wipe the smile off his face with a dreadful corner and Bulgaria clear.

    If ever one minute of action summed up one of Northern Ireland's biggest problems it was the 17th minute.

    An excellent move leads to Paddy McNair having a wonderful chance to open the scoring, but his point-blank header is too close to goalkeeper Ivan Karadzhov, who makes a great save.

    Then from the corner, a Conor Washington snapshot is also kept out well. Memories of Windsor Park when Northern Ireland created a number of chances but couldn't make the breakthrough.

    Scoring goals has been NI's biggest problem in recent years - and it's come to the fore already in this opening spell.

    Jordan Thompson fires in another strike from the edge of the area and the home stopper gets a strong hand behind it to make the save.

    Moments later Thompson has another go - he clearly fancies a maiden international strike - but it's well, well over.

    This time he denies Conor Washington from close range after the ball fell to him from a corner.

    That's two brilliant stops in the space of 60 seconds.

    Washington had spoken pre-game about NI being ruthless, but that's two big chances and we're still goalless.

    Wow, how on earth has Paddy McNair not headed home?

    Conor Washington holds the ball up well and lays it off for Shane Ferguson, who whips in a superb cross towards the back post.

    McNair has so much space but he heads it at Ivan Karadzhov, who, to his credit, pulls off a brilliant reaction save to push the ball away.

    Bailey Peacock-Farrell was scrambling as Ivaylo Chochev's header from Despodov's corner almost loops under the bar.

    Thankfully it goes the wrong side of the upright and lands on the roof of the net, but that was a decent chance for the hosts.
