You have to feel a bit sorry for Leander Dendoncker there.

He has to make a play for the ball because if he doesn't Raheem Sterling has a tap-in.

Wolves won't get despondent just yet though. Until they beat Leeds two matches ago, they hadn't scored first in a Premier League game since November.

It's a brilliant ball from Rodri. He's got all the time and the space on the edge of the centre circle. Riyad Mahrez makes a run from wide on the right, he's got all the time in the world to take a touch in the penalty area, picks his spot in that corridor of uncertainty between the keeper and the defender.

Leander Dendoncker doesn't really have a choice, he has to go for the ball and Sterling has been waiting and waiting on the shoulder.

Wolves do get forward down the right but City are back in numbers and Adama Traore can't find a way through.

The visitors have to go backwards.

    Opener!

It's actually Leander Dendoncker who puts the ball in his own net as he attempts to deny Raheem Sterling a tap-in at the back post.

It is superb stuff from Riyad Mahrez on the right, who controls a pass brilliantly before whipping in the cross which leaves Dendoncker with very few options.

    It's all City deserve.

Raheem Sterling gets himself inside the Wolves penalty area, but he takes too long on the ball as he looks up for a team-mate and allows Conor Coady to get a tackle in. City are getting closer...

It could be a long night for Ki-Jana Hoever. He's got Joao Cancelo bombing forward, Raheem Sterling drifting in the hole between him and the centre-half and also Kevin de Bruyne wandering out there as well!

    Risky from Wolves!

The visitors try to play out from the back but Romain Saiss loses possession and Kevin de Bruyne is there to nip in and earn a corner for City with a blocked shot.

Wolves deal with the set-piece, but there's no rest as City build again.

Sharp goalkeeping by Rui Patricio, he was quickly out to Raheem Sterling's feet and managed to make the block.

Just seen a replay of that early Raheem Sterling chance and it's an excellent throughball from Joao Cancelo that plays him in.

Solid goalkeeping from Rui Patricio to keep his side level. He's going to be busy tonight.

This is already shaping up to be a long night for Wolves.

The visitors have everyone back and there's nobody available up top when they do win the ball back.

Manchester City are knocking the ball around like a side that has won 20 games in a row.

It will be interesting to see how much Nelson Semedo looks to get forward. For Wolves going forward, you're looking at who is going to sacrifice themselves to get up with Adama Traore. I think Pedro Neto is the most likely but beyond that, you just need anyone to get up there and help him.

It does appear that Ki-Jana Hoever is Wolves' right wing-back, with Nelson Semedo playing ahead of him.

It's going to be interesting watching Semedo's role tonight, and whether he is on Joao Cancelo watch.

City already have Wolves pinned back in their own half.

Re 19:40 - Lots of people seem to have this idea that Pep is just lucky to manage rich clubs. Funny how it never seems to be a view held by other managers, e.g Moyes singing his praises last week. Guess they don't know what they're talking about!

I have never really looked before so it might happen all the time but Manchester City had 11 outfield players in a first-time passing drill on the far side of the pitch just then.

It explained why Phil Foden was not with the main group of substitutes doing their keepy-uppies - neither was Sergio Aguero to be honest, I'm not sure what his pre-match drill is.

But with the Foden thing, I wonder if it is replicating what happens on the pitch, when the goalkeeper is an obvious part of proceedings.

Given how good Ederson's passing is, it wouldn't surprise me.

  20. Time for refs to be mic'd up?published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2021

A mic on the referee - is that something you'd want to see?

Hopefully we don't have to mention referees and video assistant referees too much this evening, but there has been plenty of controversy surrounding decisions over recent weeks.

The Monday Night Club discussed the topic in their latest episode, which can be found over here.
