Aleks Yakubssohn: this game has a feel of a deja vu from something like maybe 2010. a tiring Liverpool team on a downslide after a few glorious years, versus a Chelsea rejuvenated by yet another new coach

Stu Milligan: Liverpool playing such a high line with a makeshift defense is just pure craziness. See this as an easy win for Chelsea.

Jonah Anton: Liverpool so tentative in everything they do. Zero confidence. World class players all over the pitch playing completely inside themselves.

Paul Walmsley: Classic Liverpool at Anfield in 2021: Sleepy. Slow. Lacking goal threat. Losing.

  5. Chelsea fully deserve the leadpublished at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Chelsea's lead is fully merited and could have been more. Timo Werner has been very lively while Mason Mount's goal was an outstanding piece of individual ability.

Liverpool, well, slow, sluggish, off the pace. And that is being kind.

  6. 'We had chances to kill it'published at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

    FT: Fulham 0-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a tough game and we knew it. They play very well, they don't score many but they don't concede many either. We had chances to kill it and we didn't and then the game becomes very similar to what we have had in other games.

"He [Hugo Lloris] is there for that. Their goalkeeper also did it, a couple of saves that would kill the game. Hugo is the best French goalkeeper and made a couple of saves to show it.

"I am expecting a battle with Crystal Palace, that is the battle I am expecting, they will be very hard. One more day for them to rest than us, it is going to be hard and it is the only match in this moment."

  7. 'I won't complain - that's the rule'published at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

    Fulham 0-1 Tottenham

    Fulham

Fulham manager Scott Parker speaking to BBC Sport: "Disappointed ultimately. I felt we started the game well. I didn't feel we played as I wanted to [in the first half], which is like a top team.

"Second half was every bit of that and we fully deserved something out of it. The endeavour was there to see."

On the disallowed goal: "It is [hard to take] but I'm not going to complain - that's the rule. If it hits your arm it gets disallowed. I don't know what he can physically do. Probably a bit of common sense needs to prevail in that rule but I'm not saying it's not the right decision because by the rule it is [correct].

"[Tottenham' is a top team with arguably the best front three in the league and we gave them more than a run for their money tonight. It was a real dominant performance for us but we fell short."

  8. 'We're in the fight'published at 21:13 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

    West Brom 0-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti told Match of the Day: "It was really hard, really difficult, but the Premier League is like this. West Brom has a lot of strength, fight, long balls and a lot of spirit. We needed to be ready and we were ready.

"Defensively we are strong and we have quality at set-pieces and on the counter-attack.

"We're doing well and now we're in the fight at the top of the table. The season is still long but we are there and pleased to be there.

"I would like to say the season has been a fantastic one at the end of the season."

  9. 'Seen 50 or 60 penalties given for less'published at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

    West Brom 0-1 Everton

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce was unhappy a penalty was not awarded for Mason Holgate's challenge on Mbaye Diagne, a decision which referee Darren England was not asked to review on the pitchside monitor.

"I've seen 50 or 60 penalties given for less than that and I don't know why it wasn't given," Allardyce told BBC Match of the Day.

"Holgate went straight across his standing leg and when you slow it down it looks even worse.

"Why [video assistant referee] Michael Oliver has not asked him to have a look at it and just dismissed it, I don't know."

  10. 'Only have ourselves to blame'published at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2021

    West Brom 0-1 Everton

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Sam Allardyce, speaking to Match of the Day, said: "When you start well and play as well as we did, we only have ourselves to blame.

"We got a good finish at the end but it was probably two millimetres offside.

"I thought we had the better opportunities and am very satisfied with the performance, but it does not mean a lot when you don't get the points.

"You have to defend crosses and Richarlison made it his own. I would've been satisfied with a point - but that's the best 90 minutes since I've been here."

Absolutely magnificent from Mason Mount - one ball again which ode Liverpool. The error from Fabinho at the back, you cannot let Mount inside on his right foot because he is absolutely clinical. Such a brilliant right foot - he should shunt him away from goal but he shows him the inside, finds the corner of the net, clinical as you like just passes it with pace into the corner of Allison's net.

    A wonderful finish.
