In a week of little opportunity in fantasy I've brought in Lewis Dunk to help me out. Hopefully a clean and a goal - and a chance to show Southgate what he's missing.

Two chances in three minutes for Brighton, both for Jakub Moder. Now he runs onto Danny Welenck's clever first-time pass from the left but hits a shot straight at Martin Dubravka.

Michael Smith: We all know goals are a problem at Newcastle - so why not take the top scorer from the U23's? Why no Anderson? We must have some players who can offer something different.

Surely Joelinton has to score a goal sometime this century?

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

Brighton have a chance within 90 seconds. Neal Maupay whips in a nice cross from the right. Jakub Moder, on his first Premier League start, takes a touch and then half-volleys the ball over the bar.

The 21-year-old Poland international, who was signed earlier this season, usually plays in midfield but is at left wing-back today.

  8. 'Brighton to win tight game'published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2021

    Brighton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Brighton will come into this game with a bit of confidence after beating Southampton last week.

Scoring has been a problem for the Seagulls, but they got two goals against Saints - the first time they'd managed that in the Premier League since 2 January - which was another positive, as well as ending a three-game losing streak.

I think this will be another tight game, with Newcastle sitting in as they always seem to do.

It's hard to see the Magpies' approach changing while their key attacking players are injured - Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron are out until April - and I don't see their results improving until they return.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-1

Scott: Easy on the eye but no end product vs hoof-and-hope Bruce ball.

Sean Turner: Brighton without a home win since the great depression and Newcastle with one goal in seven meetings.

So ever the optimist and given recent form I'm expecting an end to end 3-2 win, or is that the stuff of dreams?

Michael Smith: Newcastle's longest unbeaten run is 3 draws - that sums it up really. I guess hoping to win one makes us all have unrealistic expectations.

I remember seeing the names Owen, Shearer, Kluivert, Given, Solano, Ben Arfa, Robert, Dyer, Emre in the Newcastle line up not that long ago. This current team wouldn't even get a sniff at the bench of that era. Newcastle are no longer PL top 10 and won't be any time soon.

  12. Newcastle yet to beat Brightonpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2021

    Brighton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

Brighton have never lost to Newcastle in the Premier League, while Newcastle have scored just one goal in the past seven meetings.

Albion are however looking to claim their first league double over Newcastle since the 1978-79 season, in the second tier.

Newcastle have had only two victories in the last 15 encounters, both of which came in the Championship in 2016-17.

Ian Simpson: Shocking how Almiron is rushed back, Murphy is omitted & Joelinton is undroppable. 0-0 draw is the plan tonight!

'We've been better in the last 8 - 10 games' says Bruce! We've picked up 9 points from the last 10 games. Whatever he's on, I wish I could get some too.

    Andy, Derby

Bruce is clueless! Leaves our best player of the last month Murphy on the bench and picks Joelinton!

  14. Newcastle to extend unbeaten run?published at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2021

    Brighton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

Newcastle are on their longest unbeaten run of the season, following three successive league draws.

They are winless in five games, though, scoring just three goals during that spell.

Only Southampton have earned fewer points in the Premier League than Newcastle in 2021, with the Magpies losing eight of their 13 games this year.

They have failed to register successive away clean sheets in a Premier League season since December 2013.

  15. Albion's unhappy home recordpublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2021

    Brighton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

Defeat tonight would see Brighton lose three consecutive home league games for the first time this season.

They have won just once in their last 18 Premier League home games, with no Albion player scoring more than two league goals at home this season.

Top scorer Neal Maupay has gone nine Premier League appearances without a goal.

Craig Thompson: Fully expect Brighton to have 60% possession and 15 shots, just for Newcastle to win 1-0 after scoring with their only attempt on target.

Stephen Ramshaw: Not a proven goalscorer in the Newcastle starting 11.

  20. 'I am really proud of Dunk'published at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2021

    Brighton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter says Lewis Dunk's leadership will be crucial in the closing weeks.

"His leadership will be really important and I think he's getting better and better," said Potter.

"It's his second season being captain and he leads more naturally by example, he wears his heart on his sleeve and he takes on the responsibility of performing to the highest level, and he's been the best player since I have been at the club.

"So he leads in that regard, but he's also developing just how to lead as a man, as a person off the pitch and on it. He's been a credit to himself. I am really proud of him."
