    Bristol City 0-1 Chelsea

Fran Kirby has been in exceptional form this season, causing havoc playing out wide. It's no surprise that she laid on the opener for Kerr, who will not score an easier goal all season.

Chelsea are going for the throat here. They want a second. They have a second corner in quick succession

    What a start by Chelsea.

Fran Kirby is played through on the right and does superbly to make sure she gets in front of her marker and then unselfishly squares the ball across to Sam Kerr who cannot miss from about two yards.

The teams are out. Not many of them glanced at the trophy as they walked past it. That's a very common superstition thing isn't it?

The players line up and the national anthem is played.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes is convinced fighting on all fronts must be a good thing.

"Winning breeds winning but, as I said to my team, we haven't accomplished anything, we haven't achieved anything," she said.

"We've got to keep the hunger and the endurance for that hunger as high as possible if we're going to be in with a shout of winning."

  6. 'Not here to make the numbers up'published at 14:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

Bristol City v Chelsea (14:30 GMT)

Chelsea have scored a staggering 49 WSL goals in 16 games this season 14 of them in two thumping wins over Bristol City.

But Matt Beard, who is deputising as manager while Tanya Oxtoby is on maternity leave, insists his side are not here to "make the numbers up".

"It's not a foregone conclusion by any stretch of the imagination," Beard said. "But we appreciate where they are and where we are.

"There are some shock results on some days and if we manage to pull that off, what an achievement it would be.

"It's a cup final and we're not in it to make the numbers up."

Bristol City have England international Ebony Salmon leading the line and have gone for Keira Skeels at the back with Laura Rafferty among the substitutes.

Chelsea look strong no matter what side they select. The attacking options read like a who's who of world beaters.

Boss Emma Hayes includes Sam Kerr, Fran Kirby and Guro Reiten and there is a surprise start for Jessie Fleming, but Ji So-Yun and Pernille Harder are left on the bench.

Bristol City: Baggaley; Bryson, Skeels, Evans (c), Purfield, Humphrey, Bissell, Mastrantonio, Wellings, Daniels, Salmon.

Subs: Smith, Rafferty, Allen, Palmer, Collis, Harrison, Layzell, Jones.

Chelsea: Berger Mjelde, Bright, Eriksson (capt), Andersson, Leupolz, Ingle, Kirby, Fleming, Reiten, Kerr.

Subs: Musovic, Telford, Blundell, Carter, Ji, Charles, Cuthbert, Harder, Spence.

  8. Reasons to be cheerfulpublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2021

Bristol City v Chelsea (14:30 GMT)

The Robins have reasons to be chirpy having moved off the bottom of the WSL thanks to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Reading on Monday.

Ebony Salmon's fine winner means they have won three and drawn one of their previous five games.

The only defeat came in the 5-0 home drubbing against Chelsea last month. But part of that run saw Bristol City coast past Brighton 3-0, the same Seagulls side who have inflicted Chelsea's only loss all season.

The Continental Cup final gets the full "huge favourite v massive underdog" treatment at Vicarage Road today.

All common sense points to a win for reigning holders Chelsea, also the reigning Women's Super League champions and current leaders.

The Blues have lost just once in 25 games in all competitions this season. They top the Women's Super League, and are through to the last eight in the Champions League.

Oh, and they have beaten their opponents twice in the league this term, scoring 14 goals and not conceding.

But this is a Bristol side on the up...
