    And that's it from us.

Tottenham get back to winning ways, though Jose's still a little sad...

Aston Villa, meanwhile, just can't wait to have Jack Grealish back after the international break.

If you're still craving a football fix then have a read of Harry Poole's report here, while there is reaction to all today's action on the BBC Sport website.

    Until next time...

  2. 'I'm sad we need a defeat to have this reaction'published at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2021

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho talking to Match of the Day: "That's sad. Ok I am really happy with that, but it is sad we need such a bad defeat to have this kind of reaction.

"This should not be a reaction, this should be a permanent state of mind, permanent soul in the team, I think that is our next challenge - to have this standard in terms of effort, commitment, sacrifice. Independent of results, this has to be always there to dignify our jobs, the people that love us, the club and the club fans.

"I am a bit sad by realising we can have this soul and we haven't in the last couple of matches. I open my heart, I couldn't open more than I did, it was not a long football talk, but I opened my heart as a guy with more than 20 years in football and lots of experiences, I just care that they did it and the next challenge as a group is we do it every match.

"This team, I didn't feel it was a necessity, I felt the team needed a different spirit, humble, honest, simple people like Japhet, Rodon, Vinicius, the two 16-year-olds on the bench are living the dream, you need people that if you play them for one second they are living a dream.

"It is a big three points, now the guys disappear and come back two or three days before the next match and let's pray and hope they come back in good conditions."

  3. 'Playing with this soul should be a permanent thing'published at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2021

    Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho to Sky Sports: "It was a good result. Total credit to the players. An incredible attitude and effort. Some of the guys it was almost like a debut, like Tanganga or Rodon who have not had many games. Some like Harry played 120 minutes 48 hours ago.

"They gave everything. The team was a team. The next challenge as a team is not to play like this as a reaction to an awful performance. Playing with this state of mind, this soul, should be a permanent thing.

"It was a pity I could only make three changes. If we could make eight, we would have because everyone was within their limits - we saw tiredness and cramps.

"Football is not easy. The individual interests are around. The agents are around. The connections between agent and press are around. Instead of a feeling of team empathy - I do for you, you do for me - you need time to develop this in a group. Society and psychological profile of young people is not an easy one.

"I want to be proud of my players, no matter the result. I was proud of players during my career many times after defeats. I was not proud last Thursday or at the Emirates.

"I can't do it alone. I have to do it with my club, with the players in the dressing room. Tonight I'm really happy with what they did."

  6. 'We lacked quality in final third'published at 21:49 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2021

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to Match of the Day: "If you make mistakes like we did for their goals and don't create or show much quality in the final third, you are going to lose games. I thought we started well and got into some really good areas, but lacked quality when we got there.

"They got numbers behind the ball but we got into the box a number of times and either hit the first man or didn't show the quality needed. That's what's probably lacking with us at the moment.

"I still feel we should have a free-kick before their second goal on Matt Targett, if he learns to go down... it's a penalty, Harry's miscontrolled it and he catches him. If Matt Targett goes down on the touchline maybe it doesn't even get there.

"When we had the shut down we kind of lost the momentum, we've been up and down since then.

'Jack Grealish will be back first game after the international break."

Carlos Vinicius has scored nine goals in his nine starts for Tottenham across all competitions, with these goals coming from just 12 shots on target by the Brazilian.

Harry Kane has been directly involved in 30 goals in the Premier League this season (17 goals, 13 assists), the first player to reach that total in the 2020-21 competition, and first time Kane himself has done so since 2017-18 (30 goals, 2 assists).

Lucas Moura has assisted a goal in back-to-back Premier League appearances for the first time (97 apps), and the first time in any league since April 2017 in Ligue 1 for PSG.

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith to Sky Sports: "Mistakes [cost us]. I thought we started well and were the better team in the first 30 minutes. We made a mistake and they scored. We got into good areas in the first half. We made a stupid mistake for the penalty.

"Defensively we were solid all game.

"I thought Matt Targett was fouled, he needs to learn to go down maybe. They went on to score the second.

"We can't [just] wait for Jack [Grealish] to come back. The players there, it's their opportunity. Not too many have taken it.

"We've had a good season so far but we're in a bit of a blip. We won't get too downhearted. We'll reflect and work hard. We have a top player coming back for the next game."

  9. The stats...published at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2021

    FT: Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham

Tottenham have become the third side to win six consecutive Premier League away games against Aston Villa, after Manchester United (2003-2007) and Liverpool (2011-2019).

Villa are winless in four Premier League games (D2 L2), their longest such run of the season, scoring just one goal in this winless stretch.

Tottenham have won four of their last five Premier League games (L1), as many as their previous 15 league matches beforehand (W4 D4 L7).

Villa failed to have a single shot in the opening 45 minutes against Spurs, the first time they failed to register an attempt in the first half of any home league game since April 2014 against Southampton. Their first shot of this match came in the 58th minute via Trézéguet.

Villa have won just one of their six Premier League games in which Jack Grealish has not featured this season (17% - D2 L3); this is compared to a 50% win rate in their 22 league matches with him in the side in 2020-21 (W11 D3 L8).

  10. 'We didn't want to go away with three losses'published at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2021

    Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs striker Harry Kane to Sky Sports: "Massively [needed]. The last couple of games have not been good enough. We knew we had to bounce back. We didn't want to go away with three losses before the international break.

"The boys put in a great shift and we deserved it.

"The last couple of games we dropped below our standards. It was nice to get it back today - everyone fighting, putting their bodies on the line. That's what we need to do for the rest of the season to give the top four a push.

"[The last week] was embarrassing for us.

"Even at the back we didn't give away too many chances. Villa have been great this year so we knew this would be tough."

Joel Stinton: Hasn’t been the prettiest of performances but shows you what hard work brings you. Whether you’re Jose in or out kinda proves his point from Thursday. Deserved win for the workrate and attitude.

Tottenham's Lucas Moura: "What we showed today is exactly what we didn't show in the last game, the feeing was very bad and today the attitude was unbelievable - everyone did very well. We deserved the three points.

"It was a good result, a good game, especially before the international break because we now have 10 days to rest. Now we have time to think about the last few games, we keep fighting for the top four."

Jose Mourinho wanted effort and commitment after that appalling result in midweek and he's got it from every department of his team tonight. Just the way they got on with it, 29 minutes before they scored the first goal but they were dogged, resilient and it was always a case of if they scored first, they would probably win the game.

It will be a nice ride back to London, better than the one coming back from Dinamo Zagreb.

No idea what Villa's record is without Grealish, but you have to say they couldn't replace him for £150m. He's the lifeblood of the club. Need to give him the mother of all contracts this summer

Tottenham have been good, very workman-like - they've got the goals at the right time. They've not been outstanding by any stretch. But they'll get out of here and think 'that is a good win for us.'
