Rangers 0-1 Slavia Prague (agg 1-2)

Rangers can't afford to lose another goal here. A 1-1 draw would take it to extra-time, but any draw above that and Slavia progress on away goals.

However, they are struggling to create chances and, when they do send a dangerous free-kick into the penalty box, the whistle goes for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Allan McGregor will be absolutely raging at that goal. He gets his hand to it, but he'll be raging he's not saved that. It's not a bad error from him, but with the standards he sets, he'd expect to save that

The header is fantastic, it's powerful and low down, but the cross should be stopped. Arfield needs to get out there sooner

Nicolae Stanciu was Slavia's main danger man in the first leg and the Romania midfielder sends in a low cross into the six-yard box that Leon Balogun does well to turn over his own crossbar.

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

First-leg defeats for Ukrainian sides Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk would appear to be good news for Scotland's hopes of securing an automatic place in the Champions League group stage for the season after next.

Shakhtar have exited after a home defeat by Lazio in one of the games just finished, but a defeat for Rangers could hinder things. Dynamo are also about to kick off in Spain against Villarreal.

Arsenal and Grenada are also already through, while Dinamo Zagreb have taken Spurs to extra time after beating the English side 2-0 tonight.

Scotland are currently 11th in the country coefficient but only lead Ukraine by 0.275 points.

In the club coefficient rankings, Rangers are 51st, just above AC Milan, who are tied 1-1 with Manchester United, and behind Leicester City, who lost to Slavia in the round of 32.

  16. Rangers to be 'more aggressive'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard tells BT Sport: “It’s another important game and the chance to get into the last eight of this competition is big and important. If we can achieve it, it would be a big step forward from last year."

Rangers went into last week's first leg immediately after the celebrations that followed winning the league title.

“We’re definitely more prepared than the last game, for obvious reasons," Gerrard adds. "It’s given us time on the training pitch.

“In terms of our organisation, we went for a mid-block and contain to get that away goal. Tonight, we want to be more aggressive.”

Nathan Patterson has really taken his opportunity and is doing well. I was really pleased with how Steven Gerrard handled the situation and moved on from that mistake quite quickly

Steven Gerrard has kept faith with Nathan Patterson at right-back in the continued absence through injury of captain James Tavernier.

The 18-year-old had a difficult start a week ago in Prague but steadied himself thereafter, with some suggesting that he ought to have been called up to Steve Clarke's Scotland squad.

He missed out on that, and Gerrard suggested it was a bit early for a national call, but his time will surely come.

  19. Three changes for Slaviapublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Slavia head coach Jindrich Trpisovsky makes three changes from the side that defeated Mlada Boleslav in the Czech top flight on Sunday.

Alexander Bah is in defence, while Oscar Dorley and Peter Olayinka, who set up Slavia's first leg goal, return to midfield, the trio having been rested for that game.

Lukas Masopust and Stanislav Teci drop to the bench, with Mick van Buren missing out.

Ivory Coast centre-half Simon Deli, on loan from Club Brugge, retains his place with David Zima having picked up an injury as a substitute on Sunday, which means there are three changes from the side that drew with Rangers a week ago.

Jakub Hromada and Oscar start in midfield, with Tomas Holes and Jan Kuchta on the bench.

  20. Slavia arrive in 'good mood' - Tripovskypublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Slavia Prague head coach Jindrich Trpisovsky says Sunday's 3-0 win over Mlada Boleslav "lifted our mood" and praised Ivory Coast centre-half Simon Deli.

“We were satisfied with the result and with our style of play," he said.

"Simon Deli started and he played a great game. Everything was fine in the defence and up front too and we are glad for it."

Rangers had a more restful weekend off in the Scottish Premiership, but Tripovsky said: "It’s hard to say if it’s better for them. I think the good game against Boleslav helped us a lot.

“The tie is still open, but the conceded goal put us in the less favourable position. On the other side, we know that, when we win, we progress to the next round. And, after a 2-2 draw, we progress too. Scoring a goal will be the key and I believe we can make it,”
