  1. Two sides unbeaten since Decemberpublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

In 21 home games this season, only Benfica, with a 2-2 draw in the Europa League group stage, have managed to avoid defeat at Ibrox.

Since then, Rangers have recorded 10 straight wins and, in their latest three, have scored 12 goals, including a 5-2 dismantling of Royal Antwerp in the previous round. Overall, they are 18 games undefeated since their one slip-up this season - a 3-2 loss to St Mirren in December in the Scottish League Cup.

While Steven Gerrard's side had a weekend without a domestic fixture, Slavia continued their own domination of the Czech Liga with a 3-0 win away to Mlada Boleslav to stretch their lead over Sparta Prague to 14 points, albeit their city rivals have two games in hand.

It means Jindřich Trpišovský's side have gone 18 games themselves without a loss - including eight away from home, winning their latest three. And guess who were the last team to beat them? Bayer Leverkusen, who knocked Rangers out of the delayed last 16 of last season's competition, by 4-0 in December.

  2. Ibrox pitch 'shouldn't be problem'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Slavia head coach Zdenek Trpisovsky had expressed concerns about the condition of the Ibrox pitch before jetting out to Glasgow.

But he was left pleasantly surprised after getting an up-close look at training last evening.

"The pitch looks better than was talked about," he said. "At first glance, that shouldn't be a problem."

  3. McGregor save better than Banks'?published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Slavia would likely have had a 2-1 lead to bring to Ibrox had it not been for goalkeeper Allan McGregor's breathtaking save to hold Lukas Masopust's goal-bound header in Prague.

Their coach, Jindrich Trpisovsky, suggested "it is even better than the legendary save of Gordon Banks" to prevent a similar header for Brazil's Pele against England in the 1970 World Cup finals.

"I don't remember such a genius save - it was outstanding," he said.

So what do you think? Better than Banks' save, click thumbs up below. If not, click thumbs down.

  4. Tie teeming with international talentpublished at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Seven Slavia players are in Czech Republic's squad for the start of the World Cup qualifying campaign.

Goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář, defenders David Zima, Tomáš Holeš, Ondřej Kúdela and Jan Bořil, midfielders Lukáš Provod and midfielder Lukáš Masopustare are in their latest squad, while forward Jan Kuchtais is on stand-by.

Meanwhile, Jakub Hromada has received his first call-up by Slovakia and Nicolae Stanciu is again in the Romania squad along with Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi.

The Ibrox club have almost as many internationals in their squad, with defenders Filip Helander (Sweden), Leon Balogun (Nigeria) and Borna Barisic (Croatia) and midfielders Steven Davis (Northern Ireland), Bongani Zungu (South Africa), Joe Aribo (Nigeria) and Glen Kamara (Finland) having been called up for this month's games.

Of course, striker Alfredo Morelos has also recently been involved with Colombia, while midfielder Ryan Jack was picked for Scotland despite missing out tonight through injury.

It appears that Nicolae Stanciu is the man Rangers have to stop.

The 27-year-old on-form Romania attacking midfielder followed his goal in last week's 1-1 draw with Rangers by scoring a double in Slavia's 3-0 win over Mlada Boleslav to take his total to six goals in four games.

  6. 'Right up there' in importancepublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Rangers have already clinched their first Scottish league title in 10 years, but manager Steven Gerrard thinks tonight's game is about on a par in terms of significance - certainly as far as individual matches are concerned.

"It's right up there with the most important games we've faced," he said. "The opportunity to achieve the last eight from where the club was when I first came in is a chance to achieve something monumental.

"If we're in that draw, it'll be a fantastic achievement for the players."

  7. Slavia have recent pedigreepublished at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Slavia have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Europa League once previously - two season's ago. However, after beating Sevilla to reach that stage, they lost to Chelsea, beaten 4-3 in a thriller at Stamford Bridge after a 1-0 home defeat.

Of course, they came through their latest head-to-head with a British side in the previous round this season after a fine 2-0 win over Leicester City after being held 0-0 at home. So the warning signs are there for Steven Gerrard's side that they can't rely on home advantage to see them through.

The furthest Slavia have gone in European competition is the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup in 1996, when they lost to Bordeaux.

  8. Dreams of 2008 and 1972published at 19:02 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Before the Twitterati get busy, it should, of course, be pointed out that, although Rangers are looking for their first Europa League quarter-final place, it would not be the first time they have reached the last eight in European competition should they win tonight.

Indeed, the last time they were in the quarter-finals of such a competition, they went as far as the final. A 2-0 loss by Zenit St Petersburg prevented the Glasgow side lifting the Europa League's predecessor, the Uefa Cup, as recently as 2008.

Their one European trophy success came way back in 1972, with a 3-2 defeat of Dynamo Moscow in the European Cup-winners' Cup.

A few may be dreaming of a similar feat, but there's a long way to go before thoughts should drift to that and progress tonight alone is not going to be easy.

It doesn't matter who Rangers bring into this side the way they've been playing, but I can see why Gerrard has gone for Arfield. He's been brilliant all season and I love to see him back in the squad after his injury

  10. Arfield starts ahead of Hagi in two changespublished at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard makes two changes from the side that drew 1-1 in Prague a week ago.

Leon Balogun returns from suspension to replace Filip Helander as the rotation at left centre-back continues.

Meanwhile, Scott Arfield is preferred in midfield to Ianis Hagi, who joins Helander on the bench.

  11. Molde or Grenada the prize draw?published at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2021

    Rangers v Slavia Prague (20:00)

Four of tonight's last-16 games are already well under way, having kicked off at 18:00 GMT.

Arsenal, Roma and Spurs remain in pole position to progress with their games goalless at half-time after establishing healthy first-leg leads.

However, Norwegians Molde have pulled a goal back against Grenada, who won 2-0 last week in Spain.

Whoever wins that one, you would imagine the other sides will earmark them as the ones they want in the draw.
