Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins: "It's tough, we didn't deserve to be up at half-time but in the second half we were resilient and if we had taken our chances it could have been 2-0.

"A point would have been fair but it's swings and roundabouts. We were unlucky but we'll learn from this.

"I felt that with their high line I would get chances and I got one today - but we could have exposed them more with balls down the side. The celebration was because we've got a baby on the way!

"I'm here to score goals and I want to contribute."

On bringing in Christian Pulisic for Timo Werner: "On form and on work rate. We used Timo Werner lots and are close to overuse. Christian is in good form and I want to have that competition for position. We didn't do many changes in formation but Christian can show up and challenge for Timo. It is still offensive formation.

"We reacted well [in Europe] but we got under pressure with our home defeat to West Brom. We need to restart in the league. We don't start to give the impression we rest players for Tuesday because that is not the case.

"It is an important game today because it is the only game today. We have to win."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith to Sky Sports: "We deserved a point, we were better in the second half after not being great. But we lost the second half 2-0, football does that to you sometimes.

"We had a lapse in concentration, we had some good opportunities and didn't have that final pass in the final third.

"We've come to Liverpool, knew how they would play and how determined they were to put things right at Anfield but it's disapopinting to concede so late.

"Ollie Watkins played well again, he's got four goals against the champions but we leave with nothing.

"Douglas Luiz's English isn't the best. The doctor thought he said he had double vision but when he came off the translator came down and cleared it up and he was ok to carry on."

Chelsea were on the wrong end of a stunning 5-2 scoreline against West Brom last weekend, but they bounced back well against Porto in midweek.

Crystal Palace underlined how solid they are with their draw against Everton on Monday, and they are no pushovers. Chelsea are going to have to work hard for everything they get here.

Liverpool goalscorer Mo Salah, speaking to Sky Sports: "Finally! It was a great game, tough game but we won the game and that was the most important thing.

"We have lost a couple of games here and mentally it was like 'oh no, not again' but we did a good job second-half.

"It's hard not to win at Anfield for a couple of games, we also missed a couple of chances in the first half and we were thinking 'not again' but the second half we managed to play good.

"It's really important to win. I think there are only seven games left? So it's really important. We want to play Champions League next year but we just need to focus on each game and try and win them all and hopefully, we can be in that fourth place."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold: "I think he just needs to push himself. He's been training well and he's played really well the last couple of games. He just needs to try and keep focused - don't listen to anyone, just try as hard as you can and it will come."

Because he's got it on the left he managed to smash it towards the back post. Thiago is unlucky he didn't score himself. To be fair, Liverpool are quite lucky because Aston Villa have probably been the better side this second half.

Well wouldn't you know it - Liverpool are up to fourth in the table. A huge goal!

The upsetting thing for any Liverpool fans listening is in the second half, you would expect constant pressure - but that just hasn't happened.

They are usually camped on the edge of the box but it just hasn't been like that at all. I think they have just lost the midfield in the second half. I don't think they have kept that tempo from the first half either.
