  2. 'Didn't show our best'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Crystal Palace

More from Roy Hodgson to BBC: "That was the theme of our message to the team that it wasn't good enough and it wasn't what we tried to do [in the first half]. We pulled one back and could have even gone away with a smaller margin defeat but we didn't.

"It's sad that this was an opportunity for us to take a point at least from the game but all we can do is congratulate Chelsea for their good performance and well deserved victory."

On the remaining fixtures: "It's a matter of personal pride for myself, the coaching staff and the players. They are very tough games. We could quite easily hide behind that fact. We know that when we do our jobs properly and do the job right, we can get results against these teams.

"It's what has kept us in the league for three and a half seasons. Today we didn't do anywhere near enough. I of course take responsibility for it but I'm pretty sure the players will accept that they let themselves down. I don't know if we are good enough to beat Chelsea yet but we certainly did not show our best."

  3. 'Can't afford that first half'published at 19:48 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC MOTD: "We know they are a good side, everybody knows that, but we can't afford to play the way we did in the first half.

"Both of the first goals came about through balls lost near our own goal. Suddenly they find themselves 2-0 up after 10-11 minutes. We needed to defend well and make good decisions.

"But we came in at half-time 3-0 down. How many teams can come back from 3-0 down against this Chelsea team? To give some credit the players did better in the second half and showed some fight in them but the bottom line is we played against a Chelsea team that we believed we could stretch and we're on the back end of a 4-1 defeat and needed to do some last-ditch defending to keep it down to four."

  4. 'We are giving the top sides too much respect'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think when you're playing against this type of team, after 10 minutes it was two nil down, so it became harder.

"I think we started really deep. When you give the ball to those players in this type of team, it was easy for them to play through us. They took their chances straight at the beginning of the game and it became harder for us.

"I don't know why we were deep. We knew they were going to have the position of the ball but I don't think that was a reason we started so deep.

"We needed some more character and try to make the game a little bit harder for them. We tried after the second goal to get back in but the fourth goal killed us.

"I think when we play against the top sides, we are looking like we are giving them too much respect - but I think the second half was a little bit better."

  7. 'We are ready for this challenge'published at 19:38 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea's Christian Pulisic to BBC MOTD: "We had a tough day [against West Brom]. We won't win every game but the way we responded we're definitely happy.

"The first 20-30 minutes felt really strong from us. We were playing very aggressive and that drove us through the game."

On his lack of goals coming into this game: "It's tough to say. There has been a lot of things going on this season but I will work hard to do my best in any way I can. I was happy I was able to do that today."

On the top four: "It's going to be tight I think. We need to put some good results together. We are ready for this challenge."

  8. 'Nice feeling to win'published at 19:36 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, speaking to Match of the Day: "It was very good. We started very well, very aggressive and we had a high percentage of possession. We also had a good switch of play and we had a lot of touches in the box - so a very good performance.

"We dropped a little bit after the third goal but we had a good response, especially after the goal we conceded. We created a lot of chances and didn't allow much for them.

"[Kai Havertz] maybe should've scored more, he had more chances. He can still improve his hunger and determination. He has outstanding quality. He's not the leader of this team and he doesn't have to be. He had excellent runs and he could've scored more."

"It's still a matter of position on timing and decision making in the box, which will give the boys a lot of confidence to score in away games. We have the feeling we could've scored more but we deserved that and that's a nice feeling for our self-confidence."

  9. 'Our DNA to be aggressive'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

More from Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel speaking to Sky Sports: "Everything was bad against West Brom. The result was horrible but the stats were not as bad. Today we were very hungry, full of confidence and wanted to play a very aggressive game in terms of high recoveries. We were totally focused. It was good with the attitude today. It's a part of our DNA to be aggressive and should be. We showed that today.

"Of course I came to England for the targets which was to finish in the top four. We have our own way to go. We need results continually. We had a set-back last week but it is not the moment to look at other teams all the time. We are in the middle of the race. It's the target to finish there but it will be tough until the last end."

  10. 'We were very hungry'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel speaking to Sky Sports: "The first half an hour was excellent. We were very hungry, very aggressive and got a lot of recoveries in the final third. It was a deserved lead. After 35 minutes we dropped a little in position and got a little bit sloppy. We continued like this a little in the second half but it was a good reaction after their goal. We created a lot of chances and didn't concede any big chances.

"Clearly we had many chances today. The guys were hungry and creative. We had a lot of good runs and good movement. We put pressure on ourselves to have the right response. It was a step in the right direction.

"I am not disappointed [with Kai Havertz] but he could have actually scored more. He had two big chances to finish the game off. This is the way. He has absolute quality. He needs to show his quality and that is the challenge for him."

  11. 'The important thing was to win'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea goalscorer Kai Havertz, speaking to Sky Sports: "Of course I'm happy but the most important thing is that we won. It was a good game from us, we could've scored more goals but we are really happy.

"In my position you always want to score. It wasn't easy, we created many chances and we maybe should've scored more but we are happy. I think I have the freedom to go where I want to go and I hope I can continue like that. In the second half, I had one or two good chances to score but of course, I'm happy.

"It's always easy to play with players that have this quality but after winning 4-1, it's easy to say you are a good attacking team - but we have to go again and after the season we can speak about it.

"I think I have to prove it in more games but I will give my best and try to improve and I will continue like that."
