If Everton want a result here they have to get Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman higher up the pitch. Brighton need to get Adam Lallana on the ball.

That's definitely a headline to frame Stoney.

"Big Sam thinks I am a nugget" - April, 2021 (aka, the day the pubs were opened again).

  7. Big Sam thinks I am 'a nugget'published at 20:55 British Summer Time 12 April 2021

    FT: West Brom 3-0 Southampton

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at the Hawthorns

I asked Sam Allardyce what he thought about the VAR decision.

He responded by jokingly asking me what I thought of it 'you nugget'.

His argument was that everyone else thought it was a goal so why didn't I?

I did point out I had offered no opinion.

He said West Brom had an angle on the 'goal' that proved Mbaye Diagne was onside.

    Brighton 0-0 Everton

Neal Maupay rolls it back for Adam Lallana on the edge of the box but he doesn't catch the shot, scuffing it comfortably towards the keeper.

Some nice touches from Brighton in the build-up.

Richarlison tries to squeeze it inside to Lucas Digne but Lewis Dunk is alert to make a crucial interception.

Digne would have been in for the counter-attack.

Fair play to Yves Bissouma. He had the audacity to go for it. Robin Olsen slipped. Had it been a little lower it may have gone in.

  11. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Everton

Yves Bissouma plays a one-two with Danny Welbeck on the edge of the box but it doesn't come through to him.

There's a ricochet off a defender and it eventually comes back to Bissouma on the left. The angle is ridiculously tight but he attempts an acrobatic overhead kick and it falls just over the bar on the top netting!

    Some effort that!

Carlo Ancelotti is frustrated because that chance came from a simple ball over the top. Everton have to defend better than that.

  13. CLOSE!published at 32 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Everton

Leandro Trossard gets away on the right and his cross is deflected off Michael Keane.

It falls kindly for Neal Maupay and his shot is deflected dangerously past the left post.

Yves Bissouma then blasts it over the bar from the resulting corner.

I think Brighton have too much quality to go down. I was at the Fulham game against Wolves and that late winner crushed Fulham. Brighton just lack that goal scorer. Someone like Ollie Watkins would have been perfect here.

Richarlison lifts it over to Seamus Coleman on the right. He reaches the byline, cuts it back but Tom Davies nods it wide of the left post.

    Definitely a chance!

  16. 'Should have come sooner'published at 20:44 British Summer Time 12 April 2021

    FT: West Brom 3-0 Southampton

    West Bromwich Albion

More from Sam Allardyce on the chances of staying up to BBC Sport: "It's not a big chance, just a hope that we keep winning and hope the other teams lose, that’s all we can do.

"Sadly at this stage we have to rely on other teams and obviously that’s a very difficult one for us.

"It should have come sooner than this; the level of our two performances [against Chelsea and Southampton] are not unusual to the previous seven or eight but because we we didn’t win them, the team didn’t get the credit they deserved.

"Now they are winning they are getting the praise they deserve but they have deserved that for many, many games."

Richarlison uses his strength to win a throw-in on the left but Gylfi Sigurdsson can't keep it in further down the line.

    The tempo has really dropped.

  19. 'Our defensive unit has been good for long time'published at 20:40 British Summer Time 12 April 2021

    FT: West Brom 3-0 Southampton

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce speaking to BBC Sport: "The performance in the first half probably warranted more than 2-0. I warned them about the changes Southampton would make and I think they did better, but probably on the back of a lot of our sloppy passes giving the ball away.

"Our defensive unit has been good for long time and that shows why we are winning football matches. It’s resilient, won’t give much away and that’s been a long time coming for this club from when I first started when five, three and four were going in.

"That gives us the platform to break way and score the third goal to finish the game off."

Gylfi Sigurdsson makes a smart run in behind. James Rodriguez picks him out but Lucas Digne's cross is blocked by Pascal Gross.

Nice move from Everton and they have a corner.
