Leandro Trossard links up with Adam Lallana on the right. They weave some space before Lallana chips it over to Danny Welbeck.

The bounce is awkward and he tries to scissor-kick it on the half-volley. He ends up hitting it into the ground.

Jakub Moder then flashes an effort wide of the left post on the volley a few moments later.

"When you make it that easy for your opponent it is not a surprise you are 2-0 down. A whole day not in our way or what we want to see.

"We are all responsible for performances like this. If we play like this we have no chance on Sunday [in the FA Cup semi-final v Leicester].

"This was a chance to get some self confidence ahead of the weekend. We didn’t take it.

"When the first duel was lost you could see we weren’t sharp enough to compete with a team like West Brom.

"Our best 25 minutes was at the start of the second-half but it was not enough. We made changes but we were gone by that point.

"The message is clear, when you want to be successful you have to show a different face."

On the early VAR offside decision: "Normally the offside decisions are the easiest, it is yes or no. Maybe they did not have enough cameras. I don’t know. It is easy to solve."

Ben Godfrey just didn't have the composure you'd expect [for that earlier chance]. He thrashed at it. Originally it was really good build up from Everton. They look on it.

Seamus Coleman is pulled down by Jakub Moder. James Rodriguez has his eyes on this free-kick which is about 20 yards out...

Lucas Digne flashes another cross in but it's behind everyone. Ben Godfrey picks it up outside the box and skews the shot way wide.

Lucas Digne whips a really good ball in from the left but Gylfi Sigurdsson can't quite get his head on it.

Both set-plays we have had, Brighton have put the ball right on goalkeeper Robin Olsen. Maybe that is something they have planned.

Pascal Gross' cut-back for Neal Maupay is intercepted and Everton can't take advantage of the break.

Tom Davies does win a smart free-kick in the middle though.

Robin Olsen comes off his line to smack the corner away but he gets an elbow in the head from his own team-mate Yerry Mina.

Yves Bissouma gets his toe to it first ahead of Mason Holgate. Danny Welbeck then looks to get in behind but Ben Godfrey wins a throw-in for Everton.

Brighton had dropped a league-high 20 points from winning positions this season prior to the latest round of matches.

They have scored the opening goal in each of their last four league matches but lost two of them.

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom striker Callum Robinson speaking to BBC Sport: "It was really important to back last week’s result up and make it two wins in a row.

"The boss stressed we needed to go out tonight and get a win, the results didn’t go our way at the weekend.

"It [safety] is still far off but we will keep going until the end.

"We kept doing the right things and pressing the ball in the right areas. We knew the chances would come and we would put them away and that’s what happened

"I’m really happy to score and help the team get the result. We all put a shift in and hopefully we can keep getting the wins and get out of the relegation zone.

"We just have to stay positive, anything can happen in football."
