Just as I say that, Jamal Lowe tries to seize the initiative for Swansea by firing a shot from just outside the box.

Birmingham keeper Neil Etheridge once again thwarts his efforts with a diving save this time.

    Birmingham 0-0 Swansea

If you're just joining us. Worry not. You've not missed a great deal I'm afraid.

Swansea have just won a free-kick almost on halfway and seem content to pass it around low in midfield.

This is like that episode of The Simpsons with the drab 'soccer' game.

"Half back passes to the centre. Back to the wing. Back to the centre. Centre holds it. HOLDS IT..."

    Birmingham 0-0 Swansea

Some mesmorising aerial passing going on around the midfield from both sides at the minute.

Alen Halilovic puts a neat long ball into the Swansea box and wins Birmingham a corner, which he sends into the box towards Lukas Jutkiewicz who heads wide of the mark.

    Birmingham 0-0 Swansea

Lukas Jutkiewicz is flagged offside as Birmingham look to catch Swansea's back line out and race upfield.

The visitors do well to work the ball about but right now they seem content to keep possession in midfield.

This isn't the flashiest opening quarter of an hour, can you tell?

Considering two teams have been playing on this pitch for a good long while now, the St Andrew's playing surface isn't looking all that bad so far tonight.

Meanwhile, referee Tony Harrington forces a stoppage as his armband communication device has malfunctioned.

A quick trip to the sidelines and thankfully this match can carry on after it's seen to!

    Birmingham 0-0 Swansea

At the other end, Birmingham win a free-kick of their own in a dangerous area which bounces in the air around the Swansea box.

Swans keeper Freddie Woodman collects before anyone can get a head to it.

Meanwhile, I've got terrible indigestion from eating too quickly and let me tell you folks, I am full of regret but not full of chippy-inflicted calories. So you know, that's something..

    Birmingham 0-0 Swansea

Jamal Lowe puts a tremendous shot in from an acute angle after latching onto a Swansea free-kick into the Birmingham box.

Blues keeper Neil Etheridge makes a terrific save to deny the Swansea man and concedes a corner which he goes on to collect with ease.

    Birmingham 0-0 Swansea

Birmingham and Swansea exchange throw-ins on the far side of the field in the first few minutes of this one, with neither team giving much away thus far.

Harlee Dean heads a long throw-in from the visitors away from the box in the first bit of action we've seen so far.

First the players observe a minute's silence in memory of Yeovil Town captain Lee Collins who died at the age of 32 this week.

This one's about to get going. Three points could be very valuable to either side for different reasons this evening.

The players have arrived onto the pitch at Trillion Trophy St Andrew's and kick-off is coming soon.

I'll be writing the first 10 minutes or so of this while eating my tea which unfortunately hasn't come from the chippy as my partner didn't want anything unhealthy.

Thumbs up this post if they ought to live a little. Thumbs down if healthy eating is rightly a priority.

  16. 'A game we had to win'published at 19:47 British Summer Time 2 April 2021

    Derby 2-0 Luton

    Derby celebrateImage source, PA Media

Derby climbed eight points clear of the Championship relegation zone with victory over Luton at Pride Park. Goals early in either half from Lee Gregory and Greame Shinnie, who struck from the penalty spot, earned the Rams all three points.

Derby manager Wayne Rooney told BBC Radio Derby:

“It was a game we had to win, I told the players that before the game.

"We had a really good week’s training and that showed, especially in the first 30 minutes. We caused them problems and got a great first goal that we’ve been working on a lot this week.

“We got the second goal early in the second half before the game got a bit scrappy but we fully deserved the three points.”

  17. 'The quality of the play was excellent'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 2 April 2021

    Bristol City 0-2 Stoke

Goals from Nick Powell and Steven Fletcher earned Stoke victory at Ashton Gate and condemned Bristol City to a seventh-straight home defeat.

Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill said:

“I’m pleased this afternoon, I thought we played well.

“I said before the game I expected us to play well today, and we did. I wanted to see what we did against Derby County with another layer on top of that, and we got that. I still think there is more in us as well.

“First half I thought we were very, very good. The shape of the team was excellent and the quality of the play was excellent as well. We could have possibly been more than one goal ahead.

“It’s then a great free-kick from Steven at a key moment in the game. The opposition had come out and had a little bit of a spell after half-time, but I thought we saw the game out comfortably.

“It’s another clean sheet and three good points."

  18. 'We need results'published at 19:41 British Summer Time 2 April 2021

Rotherham were unable to climb out of the relegation zone as Jed Wallace's strike condemned them to defeat at Millwall. But the Millers, who had Richard Wood sent off, missed the chance to grab a late point when Michael Smith had a penalty saved by Bartosz Bialkowski.

Rotherham manager Paul Warne told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"We didn't get to grips with the game to begin with but then we were the better side and had some good changes. We also had a very good shout for a penalty.

"The sending off was a hammer blow but it was a wonder goal we conceded but we gave everything to get back in the game and our substitutes made an impact.

"We're not at the stage of the season where you build on performances, we need results."

  19. Cooper hoping to avoid three Swans lossespublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 2 April 2021

Swansea come into this match off the back of losing two consecutive games and losing ground on the Championship top two.

Steve Cooper has done an admirable job at the helm for the Swans since his appointment in June 2019.

However he has not overseen three consecutive defeats in charge of the club.

Can struggling Birmingham, who desperately need points let's not forget, inflict another record-making defeat on their opponents this evening?

Birmingham are currently 21st in the Championship and are in a spot of bother as they look to retain their second tier status.

They are three points off the drop zone having played three games more than Rotherham who occupy 22nd place.

But off the field the club have new landlords at their Trillion Trophy St Andrew's home.

Achiever Global Group Ltd, a British Virgin Islands property company, are the new owners of their 115-year home.

The price for the club to lease back the ground until 2031? £1.25m a year.
