  1. 'Going to turn very ugly'published at 19:21 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's deeply unfair for the players at Liverpool and on Jurgen Klopp as a manager and all the other clubs.

The owners have made their beds and have to come out and explain and front up to the fans and they have not done that - it's shocking.

The players and managers should not bear the brunt of something that is out of their hands. This is going to turn very ugly.

  2. 'Most important part of football are supporters and the team'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

    Leeds v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp: "I'm 53. Since I've been in professional football, the Champions League has been there. My aim was always to coach a team there. I have no issues with the Champions League.

"I like the competitive aspect of football. I like that West Ham might play in the Champions League. I don't want them to because we want to but I like they have the chance. What can I say? It's not easy.

"What I want to say as well, I've heard a few things but what I really don't like, Liverpool football club is much more than some decisions. The most important part of football are the supporters and the team. We have to make sure nothing gets between that. I've heard there are banners but the players didn't do anything wrong. We have to all stick together. We can show nobody has to walk alone in these moments. There are things to sort but nothing to do with the football or the relationship between the supporters and the team.

"In tough times you have to show you stick together. It doesn't mean you have to agree with everything but again the boys did nothing wrong. I want to make sure everyone knows that.

"I understand it. I am in a different position. I don't have all informations. I don't know exactly why the 12 clubs did it. I know some things will change with football in the future. Some things have to change in football that is for sure.

"Usually you have to prepare these kinds of things, it takes time."

  3. 'My feelings did not change'published at 19:14 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

    Leeds v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "My feelings didn't change. My opinion didn't change [from when he has criticised Super League suggestions in the past]. I heard for the first time about it yesterday. I was trying to prepare for a difficult game.

"We got some information, not a lot. Most of the things in the newspapers. It's a tough one. People are not happy with it, I can understand it. I can't say a lot more because we were not involved in the process - not the players, not me - we didn't know about it. We will have to wait how it develops."

  4. 'Stop this'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

Strong words straight from the off from Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football: "I think supporters up and down the country can stop this, and I think at the forefront of this will be Liverpool because I’ve seen it before.

"Football fans: get together, all of us, and stop this. This cannot be allowed to happen."

Leeds forwards Raphinha and Rodrigo are both doubts and will undergo late fitness tests.

They are without captain Liam Cooper, who is suspended due to the red card he received in the victory over Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is boosted by the news that he has no new injury concerns to contend with.

Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk remain on the sidelines.

Leeds are looking to win four top-flight games in a row for the first time in 20 years tonight.

Funnily enough, they beat Liverpool during that run of successive wins back in 2001 with Lee Bowyer getting the winner in a 2-1 win at Anfield.

Also, Leeds' last three wins have all been by a 2-1 scoreline. Another one on the cards?

  14. 'There isn't a lot of jeopardy'published at 18:32 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

    Leeds v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Los Angeles-based Arsenal podcaster Jessica Black, from The She Knows podcast, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I wish we were talking under different circumstances. Watching sports in America you can easily turn it off and turn it back on. When your team isn't doing well - because there isn't a lot of jeopardy, you can turn it off.

"The difference between American sports and English football is that jeopardy. The feeling anyone can do something magical. Those stories don't exist in American sport and that is why I love watching English sport. It is more sterile in America and I hate to see English football if that is what we are looking at in the future.

"I don't want to see Arsenal in some closed leagues, where it doesn't matter if we lose or we win. The American owners are having a hard time upholding the expectation of the fans. Arsenal fans have never felt less of a priority than they do now. This is the straw that broke the camel's back. The nail in the coffin, the club feel further away to the club than ever before and I don't think the Kroenke's care. A lot of fans will slip through the cracks."

  15. Reds to bounce back?published at 18:27 British Summer Time 19 April 2021

It will be interesting to see how Liverpool respond after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in midweek.

Real led 3-1 from the first leg and though they held Liverpool to a goalless draw to progress, the Reds did have several good chances to make a game of it in the first half.

For now, securing a top four finish remains Liverpool's aim.

"We love this competition and for other reasons it is very important we are back in it," Jurgen Klopp said after their Champions League exit.

"We can now concentrate on the Premier League and we will. We have to work our socks off."
