Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Liverpool's first corner of the game is swung in by Robertson but headed away at the near post by Shelvey.
Decent game.

Forearm smash on Jota and only yellow and yet you have people stating Kabak should be a red? Think the sun and a few sherbets getting to a few...

Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Newcastle are giving as good as they're getting now. Sean Longstaff is yards onside as he beats the offside trap, but his low shot is too close to Alisson, who gets down well to save.
From the resulting corner, the ball is eventually nodded into net by Jonjo Shelvey but the whistle goes for a foul on Alisson and the flag is up for offside. Take your pick.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Saint-Maximin is staging a one-man retaliation here. He beats his man down the left and fires in a low cross that is hacked away.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Saint-Maximin is in the wars again and it is once more Kabak who clatters him near halfway, this time in an aerial duel.
The Reds defender needs to be careful here. He's already been booked.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Salah's goal represents the first time Liverpool have opened the scoring at Anfield in a Premier League game since December 27th (1-1 vs West Brom).
Amazing that.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
There was a similar tackle by Fernandinho in the game against Leeds recently. He cynically took out Raphinha, who hasn't played since.
Back at Anfield. Saint-Maximin goes a fraction early to receive a pass in the Liverpool box and is flagged offside. For a second, the home defence was in a real flap.

That tackle from Kabak deserves a red card. No intention of playing the ball.
Mark, London
In my opinion these kind of fouls like Kabak just committed should be red cards. If you kick someone with absolutely zero intention of trying to get the ball then it should just be a straight red.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is, as usual, looking to impact the game further forward. His low ball between full-back and centre-back finds Mane but he pokes his effort over the bar.
Ah, flag is up. Wouldn't have counted anyway.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Saint-Maximin returns but he is still limping. Callum Wilson is sent out to warm up just in case.

Armchair Football Fan: Normally I think Salah isn't the demi-god he is described as, but that first touch to leave Ritchie behind was brilliant. Very little he could do.
David Ljunggren: Matt Ritchie showing us yet again, sadly, that he is not good enough to be a consistent performer at this level.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
There's is the visitors' strategy. Camp in, frustrate Liverpool and the n try and get the ball to Saint-Maximin.
They do exactly that, with Kabak hacking down the winger in the centre circle to earn a deserved yellow card.
Saint-Maximin is limping now. His departure would absolutely hammer Newcastle's chances of getting anything.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Newcastle simply aren't touching the ball at the moment. They're just chasing it as Liverpool shift it around in their half.

Sulaimon Adelekan: Mo Salah doing what he knows how to do best. Fantastic goal from nothing.
Josh Earl: That is exquisite from Salah.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
That defending was so criminal, Steve Barnes would have been all over it.
Newcastle look to respond as Allan Saint-Maximin wins a corner. Liverpool deal with it easily, though.
Mo Salah
Well, that didn't take long! Three minutes in fact.
Newcastle are camped in a 6-4-0 formation but it means nothing as Clark misses a clearing header, allowing Salah to bring the ball down and smash it into the roof of the net.
Wait, what?! How did I not know this?!
Imagine getting pulled over and it's Arjen de Zeeuw asking to see your licence. Needs Fitz Hall as his partner.

Tom Batten: Didn't Arjan De Zeuw once of Barnsley, Wigan and Portsmouth become a real life detective? I'm sure he's just waiting for an excuse to arrest El Hadji Diouf!

Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle striker on BBC Radio 5 Live
I think Newcastle will be all right now, they've done enough. They’ll make things very difficult for Liverpool today.
They can play with a freedom they’ve been unable to play with for most of the season. That said, their record at Anfield is hopeless.
