Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Joelinton should have done better with that chance a few minutes ago. Had a lot of goal to aim for.
Liverpool send on James Milner for Diogo Jota to face his former club.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Liverpool have only themselves to blame if they allow Newcastle back into this. The chances have been there for them to make an away goal academic.
And there is another chance with Firmino drawing a one-footed save from Dubravka with an angled shot from close range.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Big save by Alisson!
Joelinton suddenly finds himself in space in the box and a clear sight of goal, but he curls his effort too close to the home keeper, who pushes the ball away.
Best chance of the second half so far.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Shelvey plays a superb ball out wide to Murphy, who is able to carry out to the edge of the Liverpool box for a shot that is blocked before it can trouble Alisson.
Soon after, Joelinton goes down after an aerial challenge with Alexander-Arnold in the box. Steve Bruce screams for a penalty on the side-line but he won't get one.

Graham Andrew Morris: Liverpool are getting nosebleeds when they go a goal up because they have been unused to being in this position for such a long time now, it's like "what do we do now?"
Angelo Lambo: This game has 2-1 Newcastle written all over it.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Bit of Brazilian on Brazilian action as Alisson comes out to save at the feet of Joelinton. The Reds keeper had to time that well or he was risking a penalty.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Mane looks to get in behind the Newcastle defence following a one-two with Jota, but Clark gets to the ball first to steer it away from danger.
We've slotted back into the same pattern as the first half.

Our chance conversion this season has been woeful. Must be amongst the worst in the EPL. Bobby Firmino must be replaced in the summer. Six goals in 42.5 games this season for a Liverpool number nine is inexcusable!

Firmino turns his man on the edge of the box to buy himself a yard but his shot is low, tame and an easy save for Dubravka.

Ashwin R: The match is not yet over. Newcastle have a good chance to snatch the draw or even win the game.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
By most metrics, Liverpool should win this game. And yet, we start the second half with Newcastle still in with a good chance of taking something from it.
It's the lack of certainty and ability for the weak to challenge the strong that makes this game so great.

Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live
It’s been a strange one. There have certainly been a few chances for either side.
Newcastle have set up to allow Liverpool to come on to them. They are finding gaps and creating chances, but Liverpool will feel they’ve controlled the game and should be further ahead.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
It is not the common approach in modern football, but does the answer to every on-field problem have to be 'buy more players'?

The difference between Liverpool and other top clubs. They have nobody of any note on the bench to bring on in the frontline. Investment in that area will be vital for next year.
Phil, Sheffield
Something about us in the final third is nowhere near the levels of last season. Our strikers couldn't hit the proverbial barn door.
Alan, Horsham
This is a long running problem for Liverpool, their inability to convert all the goalscoring chances they create has destroyed their season. Can see Newcastle stealing this.
Jeff, St Helens
To give you a little heads up about what will be happening after this game...
I'll bring you all the reaction from players and managers, but after that, as a result of the big gaping Premier League fixture hole at 3pm, we'll be stopping the live for a bit.
I'll be back in time to build-up to and then describe the action from the London Stadium, where West Ham host Chelsea.

As a Newcastle fan I agree that ASM is on another level on his day. But he gets injured so easily, not sure I've seen a game he's played this season where he hasn't been rolling around in pain. There's no denying he's a game changer, and I'm very thankful he's a Newcastle player. But is he Super League quality? I'm not sure.

Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Liverpool led after three minutes but have spurned a host of chances since.
Newcastle's threat has been sporadic but with Saint-Maximin on the pitch anything is possible.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
Missed chances affect other parts of the pitch. Kabak and Thiago almost make a mess of possession near their own box but recover just in time to prevent Newcastle breaking.
Soon after, Mane heads wide of goal from inside the box.
Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle
We'll have two added minutes at the end of this half.
It shouldn't be, but this game is still in the balance.
