Newcastle boss Steve Bruce to BBC Match of the Day about 'super sub' goalscorer Joe Willock:
"I think he will hate the tag because yesterday I devastated him by not putting him in the team.
"I told him the reasons why, then he picks up a knock in training and it was touch and go whether he makes the bench, so to come on and have that impact again, I'm delighted for him. To get three in three, I'm delighted.
"I always thought we were a threat and in the first half we had some really good opportunities but missed the pass - a number of times we didn't take the right option.
"But when you've got Callum and Allan and Almiron on the pitch you know you've got a chance, although I didn't think we would score twice in the last minute which was incredible - because the first one probably shouldn't have been chalked off."

Teams have worked out how to play against Liverpool this season. Sit in your own half, long ball over the top to beat the press and you're in on goal. It's not the defence that's been an issue this season, it's the forward line and their chance conversion rate. Far too wasteful.

Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: “We have obviously lost a lot of defensive players this year, we know that, that’s clear and that is a killer of rhythm and a killer of a lot of things in football.
“But in these games [against lower sides] we have had chances like madness and we didn’t use them. Who is to blame for that apart from us? Nobody.
“In the moment, frustration is obviously at 150% and I will find a way back on track but for the moment it’s so harsh, it’s tough to take but we have to take it.
“I’m completely fine in a game like this with a 1-0 because it’s tough, they are fighting. The best way to deny the other team is keeping the ball, if you have the ball they can definitely not score."

Liverpool had 22 shots in that match. Nine of them were on target, 13 of them from inside the box.
I appreciate stats can be misleading some times, but one goal really is a poor return from that.
It hands a big advantage to a prospective winner at the London Stadium later in the top-four race...

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: “We created some sensational chances, played some really good stuff, should have scored with these moments against a deep defending side, eight or nine in and around the box.
“We could have closed the game early but we didn’t, we kept them in the game, we kept them alive, that’s our problem, it’s our fault.
“If you are that wasteful with your chances, how are you going to win a football game?
"Then we were lucky their first goal didn’t count, it’s like the first present I can remember from VAR and it wasn’t enough so Newcastle deserve the point and we deserve, for sure, not more than a point."

Aneurin Pryse: We don't deserve to play in the Champions League next season. The players don't, and the owners don't.
Tambuwäl: Board tension off the field, struggling on the field. We need a massive overhaul in the summer.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, speaking to BT Sport: "We have to do something about VAR, this rule. It ruins the spectacle. It is the rule, the VAR is doing its job, but who makes these rules? We are good enough to stop Super League, can we not make our own rules in the Premier League? It was an awful one to go against you. We could have won 2-1.
"Joe Willock was devastated yesterday when I told him he was not playing but he has come on in the last three games and scored. I am delighted for him.
"They are very good up front. They have 300 goals between them. We rode our luck a little time in the first half but I always felt we were a threat.
"Just at the right time our big players have come back and that was vitally important. I was quietly confident when we got the big players back we would be ok. Without them we are not quite the same threat."

Yep, a doff of the cap to Steve Bruce. With his best players fit again he has produced a fine little run to take Newcastle clear of danger. They have taken eight points from their last four games.
Here he is...

Jack Tanner: Steve Bruce never gets any credit, done a decent job in turning it around past few weeks.
Bruce Ha: All the criticism Steve Bruce got is only fair if we praise him for the 8 points he got from Spurs, Burnley, West Ham and Liverpool.

Liverpool have taken five points from home games against the sides in the bottom six this season.

Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "We scored a wonderful goal, didn't finish the game off. Didn't play enough. A counter attack can happen but we had to just keep going, keep the ball and make them run. We kept them alive and they deserved the goal. They scored the one before, unlucky for Wilson but it is handball. We don't even take this present. Really tough to take.
"Why it happened, I don't know. We had to keep the ball. In a specific way we don't fight enough. Keep ourselves in a position where we dominate the game. We had 70% of the ball, we should have 80%. We created a lot of chances, didn't score with them, so we have to create more. That is how it is. We don't do that well at the moment.
"They fought for it and we got nothing pretty much, but a point. It feels like a defeat.
"If you deserve, you deserve it. I didn't see us deserve it today playing Champions League next year."

Francis Edwards: These teams who think they’re better than everyone else and their god given right to be the best undone by the supposedly lowly Newcastle and Everton. Hope they don’t win again this season - well done Bruce!
Brilliant result. Another poke in the eye for the greedy owners. Well done Newcastle.
Brac
Big 6 showing they deserve to be in that ESL once again...! Ha!

Jurgen Klopp has just done his post-match chats with BT and BBC. There were a lot of exhales of breath and a few ponderous silences. The deflation of it all very clear to see.
One telling line: "I didn't see that we deserved to be playing Champions League today."

Newcastle United
Newcastle goalscorer Joe Willock to BBC Match of the Day: "I don’t want to be labelled a super sub but I’m happy I helped the team to a vital point that keeps us up in this league.
"Through these last weeks we’ve been growing in confidence, so much spirit and today shows how far we have come as a team.
"When you are come here and you are losing 1-0 for 89/90 minutes, it shows how far we’ve come that we got a point out of it.
"You can’t really celebrate right now with VAR but I had a feeling it was a goal. Things are going for me at the moment and I’m happy I can help the team."

Liverpool
Liverpool midfielder Thiago, speaking to BT Sport: "We have no words to explain the disappointment we have.
"The will to win, the desire to win is a very big part of the competition. We had a lot of chances to win in the first half.
"We tried to play our game. That was the key today. It worked very good in the first half, we created many spaces and created a lot of chances.
"It doesn't change that we want to win and want to be in the Champions League but for that we have to deserve to be there."

Josh Earl: That's what happens when you don't take your chances!! First should have stood, this one does. Justice for Newcastle!
Steve in Milan: Should have been 1-2. VAR is the worst thing to happen to football.

Newcastle goalscorer Joe Willock, speaking to BT Sport: "They stay very high. [Just needed] that extra pass or extra shot. I was happy we could get the goal in the end.
"Hopefully, it is more the performance we need to keep up. I don't feel like we were showing what we can earlier. What we are showing now is brilliant and we continue like that we will be safe for sure.
"I am a Newcastle player at the moment. I am learning every week and I am enjoying my football at the moment."

Any other neutrals out there quite excited to see this Klopp post-match interview?
