    Full-time: Coventry 2-0 Barnsley

Hope you enjoyed today's live coverage, thanks very much for your company.

  2. Hyam and Godden send Sky Blues away from dangerpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    Full-time: Coventry 2-0 Barnsley

So Coventry and Birmingham, who play at the same ground and have almost identical records in the league this season, are today's big winners at the foot of the Championship.

Earlier we saw the Blues snatch a late win over relegation rivals Rotherham whose busy workload may have caught up with them as they conceded an 88th-minute Harlee Dean goal which proved the difference.

It was then Coventry's turn to pick-up three points that give them a nine-point cushion over the Millers.

Goals from Dominic Hyam and a late second from substitute Matt Godden were enough for Mark Robins' men to seal victory over playoff-chasing Barnsley.

  3. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    Full-time: Coventry 2-0 Barnsley

A vital win for the Sky Blues who have moved above Birmingham and Huddersfield up to 18th and nine points clear of the drop zone.

It doesn't make them safe yet, but it certainly is a very important three points with only four games left to play.

Defeat is a blow to Barnsley's play-off hopes but they remain four points clear of Reading, who are the only side who can realistically prevent them finishing in the top six.

No need to panic for Valerien Ismael's side who huffed and puffed this afternoon and although they enjoyed plenty of possession, failed to put Ben Wilson under any sustained pressure. A couple more wins should see them into the play-offs you would think.

  4. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    Coventry 2-0 Barnsley

Matt Godden almost adds a third but fires straight at Bradley Collins. It matters not as Lee Mason then blows the final whistle.

Coventry had to defend for long periods but they held out and added a late second to move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

    That'll do it!

It's yet another long ball that's done the damage as Callum O'Hare kicks it forward for Matt Godden to chase.

The substitute tries to find a team-mate but when the ball bounces back off a defender he curls it sweetly into the corner to settle the game.

A huge three points on the cards for the Sky Blues now.

  6. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 88 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

Daryl Dike goes very close for the visitors as he meets a ball in from Alex Mowatt before firing towards goal.

It seems to hit the outside of the post before going behind to safety.

That's as close as Barnsley have come but Coventry survive.

The Sky Blues have four minutes of injury time to hold on.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 86 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

A foul by Callum Styles on Callum O'Hare releases the pressure valve for a moment.

O'Hare got a foot in as Styles tried to turn and the full-back is shown the first yellow card of the game by Lee Mason.

  8. Postpublished at 83 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

The pressure is building around the Coventry defence.

The Sky Blues are getting pushed further and further back as they try to defend the slender lead they have held since the ninth minute.

It's not as if Barnsley are creating much but they are very much pushing forward for an equaliser now.

Valerien Ismael isn't happy with what he's seeing and is cutting an increasingly frustrated figure on the touchline.

His mood won't have been improved as Coventry go on the attack as Viktor Gyokeres bursts into the box and crosses, only to see the ball cleared behind to safety.

Ten minutes left, is there another goal in this one?

It will be an important one either way.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

Max Biamou has worked extremely hard for the cause today but his work is done and he trudges off to be replaced by Matt Godden as Coventry go in search of a second to clinch the points.

  11. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

Ben Wilson pulls off a great stop with his feet as Barnsley work an opening for substitute Dominik Frieser who drills an effort on goal only to see it repelled by the home goalkeeper.

We've seen precious little of Barnsley's Daryl Dike this afternoon but to be fair to the American it's not been easy for any of the strikers out there today.

Lots of long balls to chase and mostly feeding off scraps.

  12. Postpublished at 65 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

A long punt from Matty James finds the run of substitute Viktor Gyokeres who takes it down nicely and gets in behind, only to see his effort blocked by Michal Helik.

We've got 25 minutes to play. Are Barnsley's play-off hopes going to take a knock here?

  14. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 57 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

Valerien Ismael rings the changes as Dominik Frieser and Aapo Halme come on for Romal Palmer and Cauley Woodrow.

That's three changes for the Tykes as Carlton Morris replaced Conor Chaplin at the break.

  15. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

Most of the opportunities in this game have come from set pieces and it's the same story again here as Mads Andersen, up from the back for Barnsley, nods Alex Mowatt's free-kick over the bar.

  16. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Coventry 1-0 Barnsley

Barnsley keeper Bradley Collins hasn't had too many saves to make but his running stats will be good as he's been kept very honest by Coventry's searching long balls.

He's had to race out of goal to clear the danger on numerous occasions this afternoon.

It's been a half of long balls and half-chances in the main but that ninth-minute Dominic Hyam strike is the difference at the break.

The Scottish defender was in the right place at the right time as the ball dropped from Max Biamou's layoff and he finished it like a seasoned striker from just inside the box.

Coventry will be pleased to go in ahead but may rue not extending their lead, as Barnsley grew into the half, going closest right on half-time through Cauley Woodrow.

Advantage Sky Blues, can they hang on to claim an important three points in their relegation battle?
