Bournemouth's win over Norwich, who had been promoted earlier in the day thanks to results elsewhere, was the odd one out yesterday in that the Cherries were the only promotion-chasing side to pick up three points. It was their sixth-straight victory.

Of the teams hoping to make the second automatic promotion spot, Watford lost away at Luton, Swansea came from two goals down to pick up a draw at home to bottom side Wycombe and Brentford were held to their fifth draw in six matches by Millwall.

QPR were the only other team in the top half to win, with a 2-1 away victory at Middlesbrough and mid-table Stoke have been left with little to play for after a stalemate at home to Preston.

It's still tight at the bottom, with Huddersfield's much-needed win over Forest putting pressure on Wayne Rooney's Derby who lost at Blackburn on Friday, while Sheffield Wednesday's home draw with Bristol City leaves the Owls seven points from safety with four to play.

  2. 'Night and day for Birmingham'published at 14:12 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    FT: Rotherham 0-1 Birmingham

Birmingham defender Harlee Dean told Sky Sports: "It's massive, before the game we felt like if we won this we'd have done enough. It was must win for both of us

"We're just taking it game by game. We're setting up to win matches.

"That's four clean sheets in a row now for us I think. People were putting their bodies on the line and I think the defenders all did a magnificent job.

"It was just important we got the win, I'm not bothered if I got the goal.

"It's night and day from what we were. Everybody's enjoying it and we're getting the results..

  3. Blues now safe?published at 14:05 British Summer Time 18 April 2021

    FT: Rotherham 0-1 Birmingham

As I just mentioned that late winner moves Birmingham nine points clear of the drop zone. Is that their safety secured for another season?

Rotherham stay four points behind Derby in 21st but still have a couple of games in hand on the Rams. And their goal difference is better than Derby's.

Could that prove to be crucial at the end of the campaign?

Simon Atkins: I think these 3 points make me confident of safety. We couldn't lose this, but to win it is massive.

That win has sent Birmingham nine points clear of the bottom three. What a job Lee Bowyer has done to save Blues from trouble.

Harlee Dean's late, late header gives the visitors a massive three points.

It's four wins in six for Lee Bowyer at Birmingham City and they're all-but safe now.

For Rotherham, four games in nine days ends with one win, one draw and two defeats.

They're four points adrift of safety but with two games in hand on 21st-placed Derby.

They can still get out of this but it's going to be tough.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 90+5 mins

    Rotherham 0-1 Birmingham

Two more changes for Birmingham to eat up a bit more clock.

Into the final two minutes of time added on.

Can Rotherham create one more chance?

  8. Postpublished at 90+2 mins

    Rotherham 0-1 Birmingham

It's probably a bit cruel on Rotherham if they do lose this.

A fourth game in nine days and they probably had just about shaded it but they've not forced Blues goalkeeper Neil Etheridge into a save all day.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 90 mins

    Rotherham 0-1 Birmingham

    Two changes for Birmingham.

Scott Hogan and Rekeem Harper are on and Gary Gardner and Jonathan Leko are off.

We're into six minutes of time added on.

Blues have surely won this late on!

Marc Roberts swings in a cross that Kristian Pedersen flicks on and Harlee Dean heads towards goal.

It looks like it flicks off home defender Michael Ihiekwe on the way in.

Rotherham midfielder Lewis Wing smashes one over from 30 yards.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 80 mins

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

Rotherham defender Richard Wood is the latest man down getting some treatment to a head knock.

The Millers take the opportunity to make a trio of changes.

George Hirst, Ben Wiles and Jamie Lindsay are on and Freddie Ladapo, Shaun MacDonald and Clark Robertson are off.

  13. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

A handball from Rotherham striker Freddie Ladapo gives Blues a free-kick 30 yards out.

It's played across to Maxime Colin and his deep cross is perfect for Luas Jutkiewicz at the back post.

His header is well saved by Viktor Johansson in the home goal.

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

    Game opening up now.

Rotherham look to launch a break but Blues swarm Freddie Ladapo out of the ball and Jonathan Leko bears down on the Rotherham goal.

He's crowded out of it before sub Ivan Sanchez sees a low cross blocked out.

We could see a goal here today yet after all.

  15. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

Another chance for the home team.

Clark Robertson hooks in a lovely ball that Michael Smith glances across the face of goal.

Freddie Ladapo was also moving in on the ball and might have been the better bet.

Not the first time the two Rotherham strikers have seemingly got in one another's way today.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 71 mins

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

    First change of the day.

Riley McGree is off and Ivan Sanchez is on for Birmingham.

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

Rotherham's turn to enjoy a bit of the ball.

A deep ball finds Freddie Ladapo on the run at the back post but the angle is against him so he tries to fire a cross in.

It's way too powerful though and goes out harmlessly for a throw.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 68 mins

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

Rotherham defender Richard Wood is in the book for dragging back Jonathan Leko.

About as blatant a yellow as you'll see this season.

  19. Postpublished at 66 mins

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

Rotherham have patched Angus MacDonald up and put him back out there but he's down again getting more treatment.

Looks like a cut on his foot.

The game's fizzling out with all these stoppages but there'll be a lot of time added on at the end.

  20. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Rotherham 0-0 Birmingham

Rotherham defender Angus MacDonald is down getting some treatment so both players head over to the benches for a drink and some instructions for the final 30 minutes.
