In a week where football's moral compass, the faith of the football fan and the unity of the football pyramid has been put under the microscope, it was good to see that the true heartbeat of the beautiful game continues to beat strongly.

Just ask Wycombe's players, staff, fans, owners... clinging on to their second-tier lives with a late, late winner.

Just ask Barnsley's players, staff, fans, owners... they've already been 'Daydream Believers' and had a taste of the Premier League before. They want it again.

Don't listen to the naysayers. Football is alive and well.

The EFL journey continues on Saturday. First up is Bournemouth v Brentford no less. Join us then. Goodnight.

Rotherham United saw another chance to close the gap to 21st-placed Derby slip though their hands this evening.

The Millers were 1-0 up at home against Middlesbrough, but went down to 10 men and lost 2-1.

Paul Warne's side have now lost their last three, and face play-off challengers Barnsley and Brentford next.

Meanwhile Wycombe Wanderers still have hope of Championship survival.

The Chairboys left it late to beat out-of-form Bristol City, and will need a lot of results to go their way to remain in the second tier.

Bournemouth are in fine form heading into the play-offs, rising to third in the table after securing a seventh straight league win.

The second automatic promotion spot isn't quite certain, but Watford are almost there.

Meanwhile Barnsley have established a six-point gap to seventh-placed Reading after the Tykes won at Huddersfield and the Royals could only draw at Luton.

    Birmingham 1-1 Nottm Forest

Lee Bowyer's Birmingham continue their impressive run but a real disppointment to let slip their 1-0 lead in the 98th minute.

Marc Roberts gave them a deserved lead at St Andrew's and they looked like they might get a second but Brice Samba denied them.

The call of a penalty deep into injury time handed Forest the chance of a point they seldom looked like threatening after Ryan Yates hit the bar, and Lewis Grabban made sure from the spot.

Share of the spoils for two clubs who will be back in the second tier next year barring a miracle.

    Lewis Grabban pen (90+8 mins)

Ah that's harsh on Birmingham as the penalty is awarded after Scott McKenna and Lukas Jutkiewicz come together in the air and Forest's defender goes down.

Up steps Lewis Grabban, just steering it beyond Neil Etheridge, who went the right way but couldn't keep it out.
