    Blackpool 0-1 Lincoln

The last team to score first in a League One play-off final and lose were Sunderland, against Charlton in 2019.

How did they go ahead? An early own goal.

I was at Wembley that day. It means nothing but this final has a long way to go.

  2. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Lincoln

Some good work down the right from Demetri Mitchell wins Blackpool a corner, but Luke Garbutt's delivery is comfortably headed clear by Lincoln striker Tom Hopper.

  3. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Lincoln

Blackpool's James Husband tries an ambitious ball over the top for leading scorer Jerry Yates to chase and it's only slightly overhit as Lincoln keeper Alex Palmer gathers.

The Seasiders are slowly finding their composure.

  4. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Lincoln

Joe Walsh gets his head to Jorge Grant's free-kick but the Lincoln centre-back's effort flies over the bar.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 9 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Lincoln

Blackpool left-back Luke Garbutt gets an early booking for a late sliding challenge on, you guessed it, Brennan Johnson.

The former Everton defender is being given a torrid time by the Lincoln winger.

  6. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Lincoln

Brennan Johnson - who set up that opener for Lincoln - wins them a corner which Blackpool's Daniel Ballard is able to hack clear.

The Tangerines just need a spell of steady possession here.

Wow. What a start. Who saw that coming?

Blackpool look stunned. They've been absolutely torn apart inside 50 seconds and Ollie Turton's own goal aside, you have to question how they allowed that ball into the box so easily and so early on.

The Lincoln supporters to my left are in dreamland.

    Blackpool 0-1 Lincoln

Well Lincoln boss Michael Appleton did call for his side to make a good start (see post at 14:35)!

The team coach actually arrived late at Wembley because of London traffic, but they were right at it from the first whistle.

Blackpool are just starting to settle after taking a breath.

    OH MY GOODNESS!

With the first attack of the game Lincoln's Brennan Johnson gets down the right and his low cross is missed by Blackpool keeper Chris Maxwell at the near post, with defender Ollie Turton turning the ball into his own goal.

The clock was on 47 seconds. It's a dream start for the Imps.

There was a deafening noise as the teams came out just now as well as at the end of a rendition of the national anthem.

Two sides who have done a lot to earn their place here and are desperate for a return to the Championship.

Lincoln last played in English football's second tier 60 years ago. For Blackpool it is six but it will mean just as much to either side to make their way back today.

The players are out and most importantly the 10,000 fans inside Wembley are roaring.

The national anthem is sung with suitable gusto in the stands and we're almost ready to get going.

Lincoln started the season like they meant business - winning seven of their opening nine games to sit top of the pile - and a scintillating run of form between the end of November and end of January saw Michael Appleton's side spend a lot of time at the summit.

But there was a wobble. The Imps had a poor February and March, going through a streak of just one win in 10 as they went from title hopefuls to clinging onto the final play-off spot.

However the Imps refound some late season form to finish fifth and then withstood a gutsy Sunderland fightback in the second leg of their play-off semi-final to book their Wembley date.

Midfielder Jorge Grant leads Lincoln's goalscoring charts, in large part down to scoring the majority of their league-high 16 penalties this season.

If you'd told Blackpool fans seven games into the season that their beloved Tangerines would be in the play-off final, they probably wouldn't have believed you.

Neil Critchley's side picked up just one win and four points after a wretched start to the campaign but by November they began to motor up the League One table thanks to the goals of Jerry Yates.

And 2021 has been near-perfect so far. After defeat at Bristol Rovers on 2 January Blackpool lost just three of their 26 regular-season matches to end the campaign third.

They swept aside Oxford United in their away semi-final first leg and a high-scoring draw at Bloomfield Road gave them a 6-3 aggregate victory to return to Wembley.

These play-off finals can often be cagy affairs but Blackpool and Lincoln have produced goals aplenty in their meetings this season.

At Bloomfield Road in October the Imps twice came from behind to beat 10-man Blackpool 3-2, thanks to two Jorge Grant penalties and a late Lewis Montsma winner.

The return fixture at Sincil Bank last month also saw Lincoln fight back - Anthony Scully and Brennan Johnson scoring in the final 15 minutes to cancel out Seasiders' goals from Ellis Simms and Sullay Kaikai.

"I said it would take something special to leave Liverpool and we have something very special here. But it will become even greater if we get the right result."

When most managers arrive at a club, there is usually a transitional period - laying the groundwork and trying to make their mark.

But after taking Blackpool to the League One play-off final in his first full season in charge, my colleague Jay Freeman takes a closer look at a remarkable campaign for boss Neil Critchley.

    Blackpool v Lincoln (15:00 BST)

IndyCar driver Jack Harvey will be desperate to keep up to speed with his beloved Lincoln City during Sunday's League One play-off final.

But that will be a tough ask for the 28-year-old as the Imps take on Blackpool for a place in the Championship, as he'll be lining up for the Indianapolis 500 - the most prestigious American open-wheeled race - very close to the scheduled full-time whistle in London.

"I will know what's going on, that's for sure," he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire. "I have prepped a few people and told them to keep me updated.

"I was following at the weekend [in the second leg against the Black Cats]. I was sweating in that first half and I was sweating bad and to be able to come out with an aggregate win was awesome."

There's a big blow for Blackpool as their 10-goal second-top scorer Ellis Simms misses out after picking up a knock in training.

Dan Ballard starts though for the Seasiders, with Sulley Kaikai not involved.

The Lincoln side is less of a surprise as Michael Appleton names the side that finished so strongly in their semi-final second leg against Sunderland.

Defender Joe Walsh overcomes an injury to start ahead of Lewis Montsma, with Conor McGrandles in for joint-leading scorer Anthony Scully.

Blackpool: Maxwell, Turton, Bullard, Husband, Garbutt, Stewart, Dougall, Mitchell, Embleton, Anderson, Yates.

Lincoln: Palmer, Poole, Walsh, Eyoma, Edun, Bridcutt, Grant, McGrandles, Johnson, Rogers, Hopper.
