It is an absolutely glorious day here at Wembley and don't I know about it, having driven for nearly four hours without air conditioning to get here.

Today is a special one for the fans and they were already here in their droves a couple of hours before kick-off, making a right old racket.

Reduced numbers due to the ongoing pandemic aside, there's certainly a big game feel here and you'd have to have a heart of stone not to get a little excited when you see the fans back in some way shape or form.

Lincoln City manager Michael Appleton has emphasised the importance of a good start in this afternoon's showpiece final.

His side face a Blackpool team who are aiming to win promotion back to the Championship after six years out.

"It's about playing the game and not the occasion. There's a lot of truth in that," he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

"We need to make sure we turn up and start well. We need to play better than we did in the first half [against Sunderland] on Saturday.

"It's very difficult because of the size of the game but it's about getting the players to focus on the 95, 98 minutes, whatever it is, rather than what's going on around them."

    1992, 2001, 2007, 2010 and 2017.

Blackpool have a love affair with the play-offs - this is their eighth final, three more than any other side, while their five final triumphs is also a record.

Lincoln have lost both of their previous Football League play-off finals, both played at the Millennium Stadium, but did win on their only previous Wembley appearance in the final of the 2018 EFL Trophy.

Michael Appleton's Imps are looking to reach England's second tier for the first time in 60 years and would become the first ever team to win promotion from the non-league, fourth tier and third tier in the space of five seasons if they're successful.

It's been a week of finals but they just keep coming.

And though the League One play-off final may not have the prestige or financial implications of Saturday's Champions League and Championship showpieces, this one means just as much to those involved.

Blackpool. Lincoln. The Championship. Which of them will end the day there is anyone's guess.
