I haven't heard all the news because I've been on my way to the game here but it didn't look good. I understand why they're protesting but I don't think the Glazers are going anywhere at this moment in time. It's all because of the European Super League and it's not good because a game has been cancelled. Everyone loves this game. It's one of the best games and it's the one you look for on the fixture list but I understand why fans are protesting. I don't know the ins and outs but the fans are passionate, they're not happy with the owners there and they're allowed to protest but I didn't like the way they went about.

Spurs v Sheff Utd (19:15 BST)

Spurs are trying to clinch a place in Europe next season.

They are one point behind Liverpool in sixth place - which is currently the Europa Conference League spot.

The Champions League is a big ask - they are eight points off the top four.

Sheffield United have been relegated for quite some time.

There will be plenty more reaction from the incident of Old Trafford over the course of the next few hours and days, of course.

But for now, we're going to focus on the football. Spurs, under Ryan Mason, look to bounce back from their League Cup final defeat against the already-relegated Sheffield United.

Kick-off coming up in a touch over half an hour.

    Man Utd P-P Liverpool

If you're just joining us (perhaps expecting to find out the result), here is what happened in Manchester today.

Manchester United's game against Liverpool was postponed after about 200 fans broke into Old Trafford to protest against the Glazer family's ownership of the club.

The fixture was scheduled to kick off at 16:30 BST.

"This is a collective decision from the police, both clubs, the Premier League and local authorities," said the Premier League.

Talks will now take place about re-arranging the game.

Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher, speaking to Sky Sports: "Let's not get away with why this has been done. Any other supporters in this position would have done it. There will always be a few idiots. But let's not the forget the main reason why they did this."

Penny for Pep Guardiola's thoughts today. He would probably have been able to hear the protests outside the Lowry Hotel if he was at home in his apartment in Manchester city centre.

Manchester City, of course, would have been crowned champions had Manchester United lost to Liverpool today.

  8. 'Players will wonder if there is a better way'published at 18:29 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Man Utd P-P Liverpool

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Listening to how fans are feeling and from my player perspective, I understand where fans are coming from and why they have been short changed. From a player's perspective, I'm thinking is there a better way?

We were looking at a title-winning campaign from a club today, teams trying to get into the Champions League, a wonderful game in Man Utd v Liverpool, players sitting in hotels not knowing if they can come out. This effects everybody.

Players will have been itching to get on the bus and play. Yes, there's a safety concern but other people can go and worry about that. The fixture is something they'd all have been looking forward to and as players now, when's the next fixture?

Players deserve full credit for what they have done in difficult circumstances this year. They've played week in, week out, Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday, changed the fixtures through TV and now at the business end of the season and they should be getting the rewards for what they've worked so hard for.

That's the difficulty with what's happened today.

  9. 'Majority of protests were peaceful'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

Most of the protests were peaceful but a minority engaged in significant disorder, putting other fans, staff and police at risk, BBC Sport understands.

This included serious clashes with police around the entrance to the Munich tunnel.

Yet again, we're letting the actions of a few dictate the whole conversation. Thousands of people protested peacefully and for a justifiable cause - let's focus on that and not give a few morons the attention they are craving. The message is loud and clear - the game is nothing without the fans, and the fans do actually have more power than these owners think. I'm no United fan, but I applaud them for taking a stand today.

Still plenty of fans around Old Trafford just hearing the news that the game has now been officially called off.

And there was a mood of celebration among some who cheered as cars left the stadium area and vehicles sounded their horns at a group of supporters brandishing anti-Glazer flags.

The reaction certainly suggested they feel their point has been made in extremely effective fashion.

Former Liverpool captain and manager Graeme Souness claims some of the fans who found their way inside Old Trafford threw a flare and a can of the beer at the platform where the television pundits are seated.

"Someone threw a missile and a glass bottle which could of killed us or left us with scars in hospital," said Souness, who was working for Sky Sports.

  16. 'This is just the start from Man Utd fans'published at 18:08 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Man Utd P-P Liverpool

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane on Sky Sports: "I’m disappointed the game is off. We all are.

"United fans have had enough. They’re doing this because they love the club. It’s not just the last few weeks and the Super League, it's been building for years. They’ve thought enough is enough. It’s a huge statement for the game to be called off.

"This has been the build-up of the last few years. The leadership of the club hasn’t been good enough. When they look at the owners they think it's all about making money. I believe the United fans are doing this because they love the cub.

"People might not agree but sometimes you have to put a marker down for people to notice. This will go all over the world. Hopefully the owners see the fans are deadly serious.

"There's more to come, this is just the start from Man Utd fans, I guarantee you."

Game should now be played tomorrow. Unfortunately this reduces the recovery time for the United players with a game during the week, but self-inflicted by their own fans.

  18. Liverpool in 'full agreement' over postponementpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Man Utd P-P Liverpool

Liverpool says they were in "full agreement" with the decision to postpone the match.

It added: "It is our position that public safety must be the number one factor in any such decision, with the ability to provide a secure environment for the participants, staff and officials being a particular priority.

"It was clearly not possible for this to be guaranteed today due to a situation which escalated rapidly.

"We will continue to have dialogue with Manchester United, the Premier League and the local authorities to find a suitable date to reschedule."

  19. 'The fans have stood up for what's right'published at 18:00 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Man Utd P-P Liverpool

More from Gary Neville on Sky Sports: "The reason why those thousands and thousands of fans came today is because they have had enough. They have had enough.

"We can make the story today about the disturbances and I think that needs to be covered but the story should be about the Man Utd fans. They have had enough. It will be very difficult in the next few months.

"They didn't stop the game against Roma on Thursday. Will they stop the next game? I don't think they will. Ultimately the ball is in the owners court on what they do next. The fans have spoken today and have been powerful. They have stood up for what's right."

  20. 'Protesting is the right of every single person in this country'published at 17:59 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Man Utd P-P Liverpool

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports: "I think it's a warning to the owners of the football club that the fans aren't going to accept what they have done. The second thing is that we don't know the extent to what's happened outside the ground. If there has been distrubance than I don't think that's acceptable.

"But the reality is the game has been called off and the fans have spoken. They did a few weeks ago about the proposals. It's not going to go away because they don't trust the owners of the club and they don't like them. They think they should leave.

"I think beyond today it should be about reform and legislation and making sure they can't do it again. Protesting is the right of every single person in this country to do that. However, beyond today now it's a case of making sure fans across the country unite to make sure there is reform in English football. That is the most important thing."
