The attendance has just been announced. There are 2,600 inside the ground - about 84,500 down on the crowd when the Lionesses previously took to the pitch at Wembley for the Euro 2022 final.

With around half an hour of normal time left, the floodlights are on and Sarina Wiegman is out of her seat encouraging her players.

Brilliant from Beth Mead. The England forward gets down the right and flicks the ball over an Austrian defender before clipping it over her Arsenal team-mate Manuela Zinsberger.

Fortunately for the Austria keeper neither Alessia Russo or Ella Toone can get enough contact on the ball under pressure to turn it in and it rolls back into her hands.

Signs that England are just starting to go through the gears as Georgia Stanway zings a low effort past the right-hand post from 20 yards.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has a good sight of goal and drives a right-foot shot back across goal that home goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger saves with an outstretched foot.

Chance. And not a bad one either for England with Lucy Bronze darting in from the right and then shooting with her left peg.

Oh my. Mary Earps gets away with one as Julia Hickelsberger-Fuller sprints in to close her down and gets a nick on the ball, which trickles back towards the England goal but ends up inches wide of the right corner.

Here we go again. Doesn't look like either side have made any changes at the break.

Both sets of players are back out going through their last-minute drills.

England did not have things all their own way in that half but they are in Austria for one reason - to get the job done. They are 45 minutes away from qualifying for the World Cup after Alessia Russo took her opportunity to lay down a marker following Ellen White's retirement.

It's not been a fluent Lionesses performance but that is perhaps understandable considering this is their first game since that glorious day on 31 July.

The European champions still have work to do in the second half but they are on the brink of making it to Australia and New Zealand next summer.

Some numbers those. I may be wrong but I think seven of those nine goals have come when she's been a substitute.

So far, so good for Sarina Wiegman's team.

England look so much more dangerous when they get the ball wide to the feet of Lauren Hemp or Beth Mead.

England are knocking the ball around nicely but it's not quite happening for them going forward at the minute. They just can't quite find the pass to unlock a very organised back four.
