Chris Scot: Feels harsh on Palmer, would have brought Griffiths as a sub as fitness aside, he's our best striker. Otherwise looks good!

  3. 'I don't think I had a stinker'published at 13:00 British Summer Time 19 May 2021

Motherwell defender Stephen O'Donnell has been speaking to Sky Sports about his selection.

"Delighted. Over the moon. Since the Serbia game it's been a wee while building up to this squad and I'm obviously delighted"

"I don't know if I expected to be in, I hoped to be in. The competition was there and I'm happy to stay in. It starts to play in your head a wee bit but thankfully in the last two games I don't think I had a stinker!"

"Thankfully touch wood I stay fit and ready to be a part of things."

The best part about that Scottish FA announcement video is Jim Leishman in the Anstruther Fish bar.

    I won't hear any different.

Gasteblock: Craig Gordon has to start. Gordon D: Robertson, O'Donnell, Hanley, Taylor. M: Tierney, McTominay, McGinn, Armstrong F: Dykes, Nisbet. We have to have 100% fit players on form in the team.

Dave Kennedy: At last we have in form players in the squad, not the old guard that have let us down so many times.

  9. The main casualtiespublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 19 May 2021

The squad - given injuries - is probably largely as expected.

The main names to miss out are Aberdeen's Andrew Considine, Dundee United's Lawrence Shankland, Celtic's Leigh Griffiths, and Sheffield Wednesday's Liam Palmer.

Gutting for those guys, who have been in recent squads. But nobody hugely surprising.

One thing that immediately jumps out at me is the lack of forwards, particularly given Ryan Fraser's manager Steve Bruce said this week he has not trained for six weeks or so.

James Forrest is a brilliant player, but has only just started playing again after months out. No place for Leigh Griffiths.

Goals has always been the struggle for Scotland. Agree?

Steve Clarke has included all three of the young players that a lot fans and pundits have been clamouring for. All uncapped.

Chelsea's Billy Gilmour, 19, Celtic's David Turnbull, 21, and Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson, 19, are IN. Wow.

So, we know to expect some fresh faces. The question is. Who?

No Ryan Gauld, remember. So that only leaves a few, well known, names. Ooft.

    Charlie Adam
Former Rangers midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Reports are Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has made the cut.

I’m a big admirer. I’ve been pushing for him for a number of months now. He’s a player who looks after the football, manipulates it well, passes it forward.

He does that holding role really well for Chelsea. I’d like to see him in there. We can’t afford to just bring along players for experience, they need to be good enough. He’s certainly good enough.

Expect some new exciting young faces in this squad. My info is there’ll be a distinct nod to the future, with some first-time call ups to the senior Scotland squad...

Andrew Blair: can't wait to see no St Johnstone players in the squad despite their excellent defensive unit, their playing style suiting Scotland, their excellent recent form...not even on the longlists on your website.

A fair point, Andrew. Jason Kerr in particular has been overlooked a lot. But I just don't see Steve Clarke going away from the tried and trusted in most cases.
