  2. Maguire misses outpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport in Gdansk

The Manchester United training session just finished with a fairly intense spell of shooting practice.

Harry Maguire sat and watched the lot from the dug-out.

What a shame for the England man. I wonder what his Euro 2020 chances are now?

  3. 'Lage deal will give Wolves' players stability before Euros'published at 17:26 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport on BBC Radio 5 Live

There's no contract [for Bruno Lage] to get out of, so I would have thought this would be done very quickly.

That will give a sense of stability to an uncertain situation as Wolves' players, many of whom are going off to the play in the European Championship, will know who will be waiting for them when they return for pre-season training in July.

  4. Wolves closing in on new managerpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Before we sign off for the day, here's an update on Wolves, who are closing in on the appointment of Bruno Lage to succeed Nuno Espirito Santo as manager.

No agreement has been reached with the Portuguese, 45, who left Benfica last June after 18 months in charge.

But Lage has flown to England for talks with Wolves chairman Jeff Shi and technical director Scott Sellars.

Fellow Portuguese Nuno left Wolves on Sunday after four years at Molineux, having re-established the club in the Premier League after promotion in 2018.

  5. 'This could be stepping stone to bright future for Man Utd'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to lead Manchester United to glory 22 years to the day since he completed the Treble by scoring a last-gasp winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

Sir Alex Ferguson was manager that night and travelled with the squad to Poland, while 26 May is also the birthday of the late Sir Matt Busby, manager of United's European Cup-winning side of 1968.

"We have five wins in Europe [club competitions], and lost twice to Barcelona [in finals]," Solskjaer said. "These are big nights for us. It might be the stepping stone for something better to come, a bright future because this team is a young team. It's a team that we've rebuilt over the last couple of years, so hopefully this is the start of something more.

"Of course Sir Alex is with us, we know the 26 May is Sir Matt's birthday. But the players when they sign for Man United, they sign to win trophies. They accept the challenge of being the best because this is the best club in the world, so that's the pleasure of the pressure of Man United. That's something they are ready for because they wouldn't have signed here if they weren't top players."

  8. Uncapped quartet named in England squadpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

ICYMI, uncapped Ben White, Ben Godfrey, Sam Johnstone and Aaron Ramsdale have been named in England's 33-man provisional Euro 2020 squad, while Trent Alexander-Arnold also makes the cut.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is also named, but Leeds' Patrick Bamford misses out, along with Leicester's James Maddison, Tottenham's Eric Dier and injured Burnley keeper Nick Pope.

One of the major talking points had been about Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold, who was dropped for Southgate's last squad in March.

With Atletico Madrid's La Liga winner Kieran Trippier, Manchester City's Premier League champion Kyle Walker and Chelsea's Reece James also in the squad, one of them is likely to miss out.

Gareth Southgate will name his final 26-man squad next Tuesday.

I'll be disappointed if this squad doesn't get to the semi-finals. I think Gareth Southgate, the players and the fans will be too.

  11. Is this England squad capable of winning the Euros?published at 16:54 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

It's a very inexperienced squad - 23 of the 33 have 20 caps or fewer, 18 of which are in single figures. But I think England have the potential to go a long way. Whether they can actually win it, I'm not too sure, but certainly the home advantage will help.

  12. Maguire on the sidelinespublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport in Gdansk

It doesn't look like Harry Maguire is even getting changed for tonight's training session.

He still had his big coat on when I last saw him. His team-mates are all on the pitch and ready to go.

  13. 'Antonio would be a better option for England than lots of others'published at 16:46 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Newcastle and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Patrick Bamford's worked his socks off, he's done a brilliant job. He's scored goals, he runs in behind, he's had a terrific season. But I look at the other options for Gareth Southgate and I can see why he hasn't picked Bamford.

I think Michail Antonio would be better for the England squad than a lot of players who get in there. He's had a wonderful season for West Ham but nobody mentions him. I wouldn't like to play against him - he's strong, he's quick, he can get in behind and he's scored goals this season. Not as many as Bamford but he's a handful. He's a different type of player to what we've got and I think sometimes you need that.

  14. Ferguson watching over trainingpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport in Gdansk

Sir Alex Ferguson has arrived for Manchester United's training session this evening.

Ferguson was having a long chat with former United chief executive David Gill, who recently extended his stint as a UEFA vice-president.

  15. 'I'm surprised Maddison got overlooked'published at 16:36 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Newcastle and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm surprised James Maddison got overlooked [for the England squad]. Jordan Henderson needs fitness, so is he a bit rusty? He could be fresh for the start of the tournament but it's a big ask.

There's still question marks on a few positions but I think you can write down your first 16 pretty easily. Then it's just adding the rest, but the injury situations are worrying, with Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips.

  16. Solskjaer gives little away on goalkeeper decisionpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision on Harry Maguire may be taken out of his hands, but the Manchester United boss has some other big choices to mull over, such as whether to start David De Gea or Dean Henderson in goal.

"It's always difficult to leave players out but it's throughout the whole season," he said.

"A final is a reward for what you've done the whole season, then if there's a doubt between a couple it's the form in the latter stages, of course. But we'll enjoy the last session and the players will get the team tomorrow."

Solskjaer has alternated his keepers in the last six games.

  17. Ferguson beaten at Man Utd quizpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport in Gdansk

Sir Alex Ferguson is with the Manchester United party in Gdansk.

The legendary former United boss does not get everything his way though.

The 79-year-old took part in one of the club's famed quizzes last night - and lost.

"I got him on a quiz question yesterday," said current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

  18. Martial & Jones remain out for Man Utdpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire remains a big doubt for the Europa League final, while forward Anthony Martial and defender Phil Jones remain out for the game in Gdansk due to knee injuries.

"We've prepared well," said the United boss. "Anthony didn't make it, Phil didn't make it and Harry is just going to jog up and down the sideline, I reckon.

"He'll probably try to join in [training] a little but apart from that we're looking quite good."

  19. Concorde made Solskjaer sickpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport in Gdansk

In 1999, Manchester United flew to Barcelona for their Champions League final with Bayern Munich by Concorde.

It is fair to say Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not enjoy the experience.

"It was horrible," he said. "I sometimes get sea-sick and that was a similar experience. I was sick and had to go to the toilet."

He recovered in time for the game, though, scoring the late goal that clinched the Treble.

  20. Maguire not expected to be fit for Man Utdpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 25 May 2021

Villarreal v Man Utd (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport in Gdansk

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on skipper Harry Maguire in his news conference.

    It doesn't sound good.

Maguire will be at United's training session shortly but his manager doesn't expect him to do any more than "jog up and down a bit" on the sideline.
